The Looks

(Apologies, I am not artistically gifted) Rowan has orange hair and green eyes. He is a svelte boy of average height. Rowan has a small scar on his cheek from when it was slashed at with a small knife by a robber. His costume, when he gets is a pair of white pants, a white shirt, with a yellow B on it, and a yellow mask that covers just his eyes. He is not a part of a team, yet, so his costume is very basic at this point in time. If I had to compare his look to a celebrity, it would be Cameron Monaghan.

The Legacy

Personality: Rowan is a calm, light hearted individual who would like to use his gifts for goodness. Growing up, he never felt like his gifts were a burden, as he had very accepting parents, who cherished their only child. Being that his powers focus on light, he is frightened of the dark, and feels helpless in it. He tends to avoid confrontation, which isn't exactly a good trait for a hero to possess, but feels like if he were able to team up with others, his confidence would build. He is also extremely hesitant to use his powers to harm people, and would rather play the defensive, than the offensive. Rowan tends to let many things slide, until it becomes too much and he lashes out on someone. Though these “freak outs” are few and far between.

History: Born to Scottish parents, Rowan grew up in Glasgow, but spent a significant amount of time at his parents' summer home near Broxburn. He had a rather easy childhood, with both parents being successful in their professions (his father, a professor, his mother, a scientist) the family did not have to worry about monetary struggles. The biggest value the McGreggors instilled upon their son, was to be thankful, and to act with kindness. Rowan did not always adhere to these values (no one could) but he was regarded as a generally nice kid who liked to do charity work.

When his powers did manifest, at first, he was quite frightened of them. Humans weren't exactly supposed to generate light by themselves. He thought of himself as a bit of a freak, and hid his gifts from his parents for almost a year—when Rowan's father discovered him flicking light beams at a rat in their kitchen one night. Rowan was sure that his parents were going to disown him. They were well known in the community, and having a superhuman son could make them look bad.

Much to his surprise (although, it wasn't really that out of character for the McGreggors), his parents celebrated the fact that they were blessed with a superhuman son. They encouraged their son to learn more about his gifts, and to explore what good he could do with them. Rowan, on the other hand, wasn't very sure what he could do with his powers. He could absorb light from an external source, store it, and use it when he wished. The only thing he seemed to be able to do was change the color of the light.

Or so he thought. Recently turning seventeen and heading home from a friend's house, Rowan was cornered by three men wielding knives and demanding money. A pretty typical seen in Glasgow at night, but not one the boy had faced before. His body going into fight-or-flight mode, released a bright flash of light, leaving the would-be robbers with semi-severe burns. Confused as all get out, Rowan fled the scene, and spent a portion of the night feeling bad about hurting the robbers. Yes, they had tried to rob him, but Rowan didn't like that he inflicted so much pain on another person.

Over the next year, Rowan figured out that different colors of light, gave off different levels of heat. Whilst he usually absorbed white or yellow light, his body could alter the color ranging from purple-white. At current levels, he can safely control up to yellow. The order of colors is as follows from lowest to hottest: Purple: “Cold” light (temperature around 40 F), Indigo: 70 F, Blue: 100 F, Green 150 F, Yellow: ~200 F. Orange, Red, and White would be over 200 degrees Fahrenheit but he has never accessed that kind of power.

Now eighteen, Rowan has decided to enroll in University in New York City, much to the chagrin of his parents, who did not want to see their only son go so far away or college. So far, Rowan has told no one about his gifts, and is an aspiring biology major. There have been a few times where he has almost been caught using his gifts. He has to consciously absorb light, which causes his body to glow a bit, making it not very conspicious. Rowan has recently come to the decision that he wants to use his powers to help people, he just isn't sure how to yet.

The Powers

Light absorption/manipulation: Rowan has the ability to absorb light from both natural and artificial sources. He prefers natural light, and artificial light tends to make him queasy. Rowan can change the color of the light, which changes the heat emission when expelled from his body. Most of the time he only uses Violet, indigo, and rarely blue light, as anything above tends to expend too much of his energy. As with most powers, using it for an extended period of time will quickly deplete his energy. When Rowan has no light saved up at all, his physical condition worsens rather rapidly, making very dark places a weak point for him. When there is too much light in his system, he will have to expend some of it to remain healthy. The full extent of how hot he can get with his light is currently unknown, as he has never even exceeded the yellow phase—and doesn't particularly want to.

I'm having trouble with the numerical value for the ability stat. I poked around the Stat book, but am still unsure what number to give it. I was just wondering what your guys' opinion is?

You can put up to 8 points into it for that ability. You need at least 4 for such a power. The more points you put into it, the more powerful it is.

The first 3 levels of intelligence and occult equate for each other so you don't need those 3 points in occult. The first point in wealth is free. As such, you have 26 points spent.
