Personality: Arthur is rather introverted, rarely every speaking outside of combat, his few remarks are short, to the point and often tinged with morbid implications. In combat another side of him surfaces, this is not a split personality but rather Arthur when he's not keeping himself under strict control. This side of Arthur is madness incarnate and delights in the pain his powers cause, both to his enemy and to himself, though Arthur has trained himself enough that he can put a lid on this side as soon as the pain stops, the longer he uses his powers, the more this side comes out, making it imperative that he not overuse his ability.

History: Arthur was born into an abusive household to a drunken Irish/native American father and a white woman, his father constantly beat both his mother and himself on a nightly basis. While his father did provide for them, he was only able to do this because of his occupation as a low level thug. Several times over the years he dragged Arthur along on crimes simply to 'toughen him up' or 'build character' leaving a deep and unfortunately lasting impression on the young man. Over the years, the beatings got worse and worse, culminating in his father stomping Arthur's dog to death because Arther spilled some vodka during a 'father-son bonding moment'. This continued until Arthur turned 17, by which point he reveled in the pain and took it as a sign of love (one of the only ones he understands) and developed a sadomasochist personality that he kept hidden until his birthday where his father finally killed his mother in a drunken rage. At this point Arthur, whose entire life had been effectively ruined by the liquor fueled anger of the man, snapped and killed his father with his birthday present, a large bowie knife his friend had gotten. Arthur didn't tell anyone what had happened, but the cops came looking and found the corpses. Assuming that Arthur had killed both of them they put him in jail until his assigned court date where his lawyer got his sentence altered on a plea of insanity.
He was taken to Lost Waters insane asylum where after one of countless blood extractions on Arthur and the other patients, they noticed a strange gene in him. They called in a man named John Hargrave who performed extensive experiments on the boy for reasons unknown to Arthur. When he got out he was the jaded, rigidly controlled man he is today, barely communicative with the outside world due to a combination of his psychological trauma and a deep conditioning from Hargrave against speaking of his time in the asylum. Arthur wandered around aimlessly, unable to find a job due to his criminal record and his own introverted nature. One night he was sleeping in an alley when a man tried to mug him. The man soon felt himself on the receiving end of Arthur's until then dormant ability. Not yet knowing how to control or even deactivate his power, Arthur killed the man by doing little more than touching his cheek. Over the next few years Arthur wandered the country, perfecting his power. At one point he convinced -see: threatened- a man into constructing a helmet for him to hide his hideous scars that he received from both his father and Hargrave. Eventually he turned up in New York, the only thing he was sure of was that despite his upbringing and his powers, he wouldn't turn into a criminal like his father.

Powers: Arthur's power is the ability to inflict pure pain on his enemy so long as his hand is touching them (this can be communicated through clothing so long as his hands are bare), depending on the body part the pain is different (ex: if he grabs your arm, you'll feel like it's being torn off), however if he grabs his enemy's head then their entire body will feel the pain. The flip side of this is that he feels the exact same amount of pain as his victims in the applicable area, while he can control how much pain his enemy feels, he tends to go for the max possible in order to shock them into unconsciousness.
The downside to his powers is that the longer he uses them in a short time, the more his real self surfaces. The pain is only maintained so long as he has contact with the victim, his powers cannot penetrate thick armor or surfaces (such as walls) no are they able to be channeled through objects or other people. They only work if he has direct contact with the person. In addition though this could theoretically hurt any living being, creatures without a nervous system are immune to his power. Though it's possible for someone to be killed through sheer shock, it's far from his style to do this. If he feels his enemy is of normal human toughness, he'll scale his powers back. As well, he can tailor the pain to specific sensations (such as being cut or stabbed).
