Incignus Empty Incignus

Post by Incignus March 18th 2011, 4:08 pm

Human Name: Aiden Borvo

Villain Name: Incignus (a combo of 'incinerate' and 'ignite.' And 'us.')

Title: Tinhead, lava dude, or whatever other characters come up with.

Alignment: Villain, later Renegade

Age: 289 Earth years
Gender: Looks Male, identifies Male.
Race: Alien --> Marlagordian --> Molten beings
Hair: N/A
Eyes: N/A
Height: 6’ 10’’ with suit on, 6' 9" with suit off.
Weight: 420 lb with the suit on, 390 lb with the suit off.

Costume Description:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

He has a suit he wears in order to protect himself from cool temperatures. It's a containment suit that is entirely sealed from the outside. It is made of combo of cloth and metals and has advanced climate control systems on the inside. It's over all look is like a suit of armor, but it's surface is dull instead of the shininess people associate with metal armor. The suit is very warm to the touch, but isn’t burning unless he’s using his abilities. On his back is a pack that holds a bit of flammable gases to power his flamethrower, which connects to his left arm through a tube. His helmet resembles a welding helmet and the rest of the suit follows a similarly rounded-rectangular design.

The suit is ink black and fiery orange, black being the main color and the orange being secondary; the color of some metal parts, accenting, etc. Some components of the suit glow. The face mask area, despite being see-through to him, is completely opaque from the outside, a solid black.

His suit was standard issue gear on Marlagord, but here on Earth he can't get it replaced. Only able to do minor repairs, he has to be careful with it. He only has like 2 spares. Extensive damage will require a specialist.

Personality: If he didn't like blowing stuff up, causing large populated areas to sink under ground, scaring people into doing things they normally wouldn't do, kicking out fire hydrants, flipping off old ladies, plotting to destroy superheroes, and generally causing bad things to happen, he'd be an okay guy. He's pretty mellow, slow to anger. He enjoys reading, music, and is generally an intelligent guy who's more book smart than street smart (in fact, some street slang/body language just confuses the hell out of him). He's not artistic, but he doesn't mind giving painting a whirl every once in a while, and he likes to tear buildings apart so he can practice architecture using his powers. He's no professional, though, and what's usually left over is a twisted globby metal thing. He loves watching television and, as such, has no desire to attack or endanger news stations, TV stations, film sets, or Hollywood. If he's particularly mindful about an upcoming show or movie, he'll even go so far as to defend the location from fellow villains.

Incignus lacks in fighting skills despite his EP level. He does alright; he can throw a punch, defend his life, catch someone on fire, but he lacks in strategy and experience. As far as he's concerned, he generally just uses his powers and hopes for the best, and usually it works because of his high level of energy projection. This also helps keep his villainy to a fairly low level - there are heroes far smarter and experienced than him, so doing anything that'll take him longer than, say, an hour will likely put his life in danger. No massive swirling vortexes of evil or extended monologues from him, he's well aware of his weaknesses and will usually run when he realizes he’s in over his head. Call him a coward, he's not stupid. Common sense.

Overall, he's a fairly small time crook with a personal life he values, but his little stints are attention grabbing enough that he can't be ignored, mainly because of his abilities and his lack of respect for the lives of people who don't appear in his favorite soap opera. Sometimes he put grander schemes in motion, but he’s less concerned with ruling or destroying the world and more concerned with living in his new home.. and maaaaaaybe enslaving humanity. He's just thinking about it, though. No idea how to go about it.

New to humans and the world despite his book smarts, he will probably make plenty of mistakes as he develops despite being quite old. Introverted, his negative personality traits show more when he's tired of dealing with people.

Personality Development: When he first arrives on Earth, he is angry and bent on turning the planet into a spinning ball of magma for the survivors of his species to call home. He has little interest in humans and their ways beyond what he needs to know to get his goals accomplished. Not possessing enough INT to go about constructing doomsday devices, he has to rely on others to do things for him. He will not hesitate to kidnap, bribe, manipulate, murder, torture, or otherwise get his hands dirty and it's only easier for him because he feels humans are under evolved and weak.

It isn't until later, through the evolution of his character, that he reaches a state resembling peace and he can exist on Earth with humans and develops a strong affiliation for television.

History: Incignus is not human. He is a member of a race of sentient molten-rock beings from a totally different part of the galaxy, from a planet called Marlagord.

A very long time ago, Incignus was a fairly average guy in the somewhat apathetic society of his upbringing. Marlagord was a hot place, similar to Earth, but the surface was barren and dry. Unlike Earth, its people and animals lived under the surface, in underground cities, the surface world really only used to put things like cables, electric motors, travel vehicles, computers, and such that needed to be away from extreme heat. Incignus, like most of his people, knew the basics of building and repairing their own suits and general equipment to help the life expectancy of such technology along. Specializing in this, Incignus was essentially an electrician and his skills would come in handy very soon in his history.

Scientists had been saying their star was dying for years, but no one thought it was blow in their life time. And at the same time his homeplanet was cooling down, just as our system’s Mars did at some point in the past. Not a very large planet to begin with, it was rapidly reaching the end of its time and scientists estimated that the star could explode at any day. Several Marlagordians who actually believed it was a threat took to the stars inside meteor sized chunks of rock that were hollowed out and insulated to keep them at the right temperature while in space. Incignus was one of these escapees and soon after he left, the star exploded, annihilating his planet and most of his people before they could get off the ground. One of the last survivors, Incignus flew through space for several years, his capsule slowly losing heat despite the technology inside and he, in effect, starting to die.

Fast forward some years and his capsule was approaching Earth. All in the space of hours, he entered the atmosphere, whose jolt of heat awoke his near-dead body, and crash landed near Yellowstone National Park. Suddenly in a much warmer climate than dead space, he wasted no time in using what energy he had left to burrow into the Earth, gaining strength as he reached living pools of magma below.

He settled in quickly. At first, he was disturbed at the organic creatures walking the surface above. He paid them no heed as he explored the underground, discovering that the Earth was basically a spinning ball of magma with a thin skin over top – not much different from Marlagord and much bigger too. Soon, he set up the technology he brought with him, including his containment suit which his people also used on his planet for various things, and then hooked himself up to the Earth's internet, slowly, but surely, over the course of about a year, learning English. Through his new found language skills, he found doors opened into other fields of knowledge. It was through college textbooks and his own knowledge seeking that he soon found himself comfortably familiar with most of Earth's more Western customs and languages.

It wasn't until another year had passed that he started his quest to find other Marlagordian survivors and convert Earth into a new home. His grief forgotten as anger and denial clouded his vision, he started establishing an internet presence and forming a network with people who could get him what he needed. In his networking, he stumbled across a few science labs f particular importance to his cause, one of which claimed to have found a meteor inside which life from space might have been found. Interested, he used what resources he could to investigate, only to find that the life from space wasn't just a bacteria growth or something similar, but another Marlagordian, weakened and near death. In his attempt to rescue the other, he realized it was too late to save the Marlagordian and found that it had been the subject of experiements for quite a while, some of which looked painful. Angered, he destroyed the remains of the Marlagordian and then melted the compound, sinking the remains into the Earth. There were enough survivors that the labs, Celedine Company, that this became a big local story but only those who had direct contact with the alien remains had any idea of what caused the compound's literal meltdown.

The event only fueled Incignus's established motivation, but while he was angry enough to act rashly, he maintained his rational and cool personality. He went underground and has continued the advancement of his plans from the dark cover of his caves.

Three years after he landed, he's built his main hideaway near Chicago, Illinois, has an alias by the name of Aiden Borvo he uses to conduct important business remotely, and is readying his first strike at organic planet Earth.

Powers:
Well, firstly, his body is pure molten mineral. His consciousness controls his body and his power is psychically controlled. I guess you could say he's a spirit that possesses extremely liquefied solid material, just as humans might be spirits that possess precisely designed biomechanical organic bodies.

His MAIN power is the ability to superheat things to a liquid state and then control its movement. (Lavawielder? Magmakinesis? ) Having this ability combined with his body type has several applications.

Things He Can Do:

- He can excite molecules into a state of frenzy, causing solid objects to melt but not catch on fire. He mostly does this to metals and rocks to get them down to a molten lava state. One of his favorite things to do is melt the ground right under whatever it is he wants gone and then whatever it is simply sinks into the lava, melts, and is gone. Damage done. It takes about 4 seconds to heat the ground or objects within a 5 foot radius enough to get to a semiliquid, usable state. A little longer to get it to a fully liquid state.

- He can direct the flow of that melted stuff, even causing it to jump or throwing it at people as projectiles. In his containment suit, he can melt the ground around him mentally, move the material, pick it up, and throw it or direct it outwards. You know water bending from Avatar the Last Airbender? This is similar but with superhot material. Or the martial arts.
But this is fairly limited control. Out of his containment suit, he can use the material to make himself bigger (to a point - if he's too big, his sentient mind, built a lot like a human's, can only handle so much body mass and sensory input and he falls apart. So he can make himself up to 10 feet tall before he has to stop.) or he can melt himself into an amorphous shape and just fling molten stuff everywhere or drag things down into the ground with him (as if he was a molten octopus, sorta).

- He can regenerate, but slowly. His body being molten, a shot or something will do damage that can just be reformed, but the problem is that he registers that shot as pain and his mind must readjust his physical form to heal that area. Also, the magma that makes up his body is specifically unique to him, almost like DNA. When he has to reform, new material must be converted into being a part of his body, and that takes a while. As a result, his reformation is very slow compared to others who can regenerate, although it's still faster than a normal human's healing.

- Outside of his containment suit, Incignus is self contained, meaning his heat won't hurt anything he touches., although he's quite warm. All his heat is on the inside. However, without the suit, he's vulnerable to cooling down faster than with it on, so his thick suit helps him keep warm. This is important because it does hurt him to have his "skin" harden to rock. The suit also helps him keep his focus on other things than keeping himself warm - using his powers to keep warm is similar to shivering and can prevent him from doing normally menial tasks smoothly.

- He can use his powers to burrow into the ground but at no faster a speed than he can run. If he's in his suit, it's slower cuz the suit has to be dragged with him or he has to make the tunnel wider for him to walk through. ((From an RPer Standpoint: I need him to be able to get away from an enemy who might otherwise have the ability to catch him far too easily. This application of his lavabending also provides a dramatct exiti/entrance. )) When burrowing, he has no idea where's he's going since it's impossible for him to follow a map from underground in molten form and he doesn't have the INT to make a gadget that would allow him to.

Other Abilities:

- He has a flamethrower. This is to use against the average person and normal criminals or to threaten people with. Against superhumans, it is relatively useless.

- His tech skills are about the same level as the average electrician in both his own tech and human tech. He can do minor repairs on his suit. He can quickly learn software and do basic computer things.

Things He Can't Do:

- He cannot regenerate from extensive damage without rocks/metal nearby to replace the missing pieces. Once cooled, missing pieces are no longer usable unless he melts them and guides them into his body make up. And then extensive damage can take several days to heal and he'd be in pain in the duration.

- He cannot come back to life once he's cooled completely.

- He can't melt humans or similarly sentient creatures just like he couldn't melt another person of his kind. Melting similarly living beings, including plants, is also difficult, since biomass is not made up of the same materials as rock or minerals.

- Yes, he can start fires as a byproduct of his heating abilities. But he cannot control fire. He can't direct it, guide it, or even suggest where it might want to go. Once it's started, it's in fate's hands. This applies to his flamethrower too - he carries gas around and then lights it just from being so hot, and then flame comes out the barrel, but he can't control how it acts mentally. It's like magma/lava is wet, fires are dry. One is a liquid, the other is a plasma/energy thing. Two different things, so it’s out of his control.

- He can’t travel more than 20 mph TOPS underground. Whatever bit of magma that makes up his molten brain and carries around his consciousness is similar to ours, so it travels real time. Carrying his suit makes him slower. There’s no teleporting through magma or whatever. If he wants to travel long distance, he needs to hijack a plane.

- He cannot repair extensive damage to his suit and can't tamper with tech made by anybody higher in INT than him, besides like pulling the plug or pouring water on it. He also doesn't have the capacity to invent new gadgets and things for himself or otherwise.

Weaknesses:

- Defeat is easier when he's completely cut off from the ground. This includes when he's in his containment suit, but also prevents him from losing his human shape and gives an enemy an easier target.

- If he's totally frozen through, absolutely no warmth at all, he's dead. That said, he CAN use his powers to warm himself back up, but if faced with an enemy who can cool him down faster than he can warm up, he's in serious trouble.

- He can take mental damage. By this I mean that while he can regenerate, and even though he doesn't have organs to bruise or bones to break, physical damage tires him in mind and spirit, which results in sluggishness and "soreness." That said, he can also feel pain; not quite like how a human does but similar. Beating him up, in other words, isn't out of the question. Also, he does need sleep, also called ‘going dormant.’

- His suit is highly resistant to heat, tearing, and general environmental wear. Ice or cold water can do damage to it, though, as can hitting it, shooting at it, etc. It's very difficult to tear it, though.

Power Grid:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Future Point Spendage Plan:
+1 to END
+1 to EP
+1 to Strength
+1 to Fighting

Character Image/Description:
In a place where he can be out of his suit without consequence, he's generally man shaped with glowing molten 'skin' that constantly hardens black and melts again. In this form, he prefers to bulk himself up with extra material that forms an armor-like outer shell resembling his containment suit but with a knight’s armor look to it.

Roleplay Sample:

The gentle clicking of the remote resounded off the walls as Incignus attempted for the fifty third time that day to get the thing to work properly with his new television. He’d managed to hook the thing up to the wall, rerouted a ‘neighbor’s’ cable connection to reach his TV, and then did the alignment thing with the remote and the numbers and the infrared to get the small black box to change the channels on the new device.

He was having no luck, however, so, losing his patience, he tossed the thing to the side, where it clattered over the spotless grey floor and slid into the wall.

“Mgh. Universal remote my ass,” his deep, gravelly voice groused out loud.

He sat for a good five minutes, blankly staring at various ads for the latest beauty products; women flinging water on their faces in slow motion and clean cut men posing with newly shaved faces. An ad for the newest ‘green’ car employed too much of the bright color in an attempt to use a visual pun that landed flat on him. And there was a commercial somewhere in between for a new perfume - he could have sworn the ad was a porno until the very end, at which time the name of the product appeared for barely two seconds after a whole minute of that. He snorted and shook his head, rising to his booted molten feet.

His heavy footfalls filled the air as he made his way to his computer. Sitting carefully in front of it, he booted it up from sleep mode and quickly checked his alias’s bank account. Aiden Barvo, account number 8859… $23.

Great.

Heaving a sigh through his self-made lungs, he stood, wondering where he could get the money for a proper new remote. He didn’t consider crime a big part of his life, but he didn’t leave it out as an option either. Well, he had power the average human did not, so what was there to lose, really? Not like they could keep him locked in jail if they caught him.

Turning towards a black nook in the brown rocky wall he liked to think of as the front door, he entered the small space and checked over his flamethrower as the glassy rocks around him started to glow red from the heat he was forcing into them. Within moments, the substance and the space above him was nearly yellow with heat and, with a little mental command, he started to rise upwards in his very own molten elevator.

Other Notes:
- Given that he passes inspection, I’ll draw him, so pics may be forthcoming. EDIT: Drew half his suited form. n_n

- His body automatically constructs a molten man shape inside the containment suit, so some organs are mimicked – like lungs and a larynx, for example, so he can speak. Eyes, ears, nerves, and such are harder to explain but do exist.

- There was some other note but I can't remember.

Both the history and personality were a fun read, good to go with me. The future point plan is pretty cool too.

You'll have to put an exact weight, and how tall are you without the suit?
Your age shouldn't really be unknown, unknown to you, sure, but it should be stated.

Think I've got everything. So if your suit is torn or removed, your skin is extremely hot and burns the area around it? How large of an area? I get that you're a molten rock alien, but having a natural heat aura would be a power itself. You've got quite a few powers. You won't be able to have a heat aura, manipulate fire, regenerate, and control lava unless you devote a portions of your energy projection to it. But you probably want your lava to be powerful so you should lose the manipulation of fire and the heat aura. You could still use a flamethrower as an item/gadget considering you have 3 INT, but the flames would be most effective against low durability characters. Regeneration is a separate power from controlling magma, and that would also require you to devote a portion of your EP to it. What I mean by all of this is that with EP your powers have to be split up, and since you probably want lava control as your main power it'd be something like this. 4 to lava 2 to regen. The regeneration would be slow and the lava would be capable of harming people up to 6 durability. Or you could ditch the regen and have the lava you create be even more deadly, but that's up to you.

I'm not to sure about you being able to melt the ground underneath you and travel through it. Might need a second opinion on this one, but I feel that it should require you to also devote points from your EP to do this since it's a travel power.

Thank you! Very Happy

Hmm...

About the point thing, I understand what you're saying. I like the 4-Lava, 2-Regen thing. I can justify it by saying that the shock and pain from damage contributes to unbalancing the delicate control he has over his liquid-solid body so then using that power to heal himself is extra slow. Like, I use my arm naturally, without even thinking about it, but if I were to lose it completely, and suddenly got a new arm, my brain would have to readjust to then incorporate the new arm into its processing. =.=

Cuz I did say he can feel pain... Does that work? His healing abilities are slow because his mind has to readjust, even though by using his powers he can heat up rocks in a few seconds. o-o

Also, about the heat aura...I didn't really think of that as a power, but if I must take that away, that's fine I think.... I could make it so that in his humanoid form, he's fairly self contained and his body heat won't burn anybody, although he is very warm. >_> But if he's extensively injured or forced into his amorphous form, he becomes lava and therefore his temperature is the same as normal lava? Uhhhhhh.... >_> I'd like to leave that out entirely but he's made of lava.... Hmmm..

Height, Weight, and age...Age is tricky, but I'll come up with something. Must use math equations for planet times, though.

Okay, I'll edit it now with an adjustment to his powers and stuff and then await the verdict. Very Happy

Post by Incignus March 20th 2011, 5:55 pm

I did the edits! n_n

I changed his suit so it protects his surface from cooling, which is painful. Otherwise, without his suit on, he won't burn anything because his heat is contained. His core temperature is normal for magma though. He is very warm, though. He'd probably be highly valued by friends or something during the winter months.

His slow healing abilities are also explained and expanded on - I'd like to keep it so I added a tidbit there that I think makes sense.

Also, I changed the "What he can do" section a bit, including non-powers based abilities/weapons, while keeping in mind the 2 EP for healing and 4 EP for his powers idea you mentioned, which I like. I also changed the travel 'power' idea to be no faster than the speed at which he runs and he can be slowed by metals and stuff that require higher temperatures to melt. He can also be slowed by his suit, which he'd have to drag with him/melt a wider area/tunnel that he can walk through.

I'd like to keep this particular application of his power because A) it wouldn't really make sense that he can melt stuff but can't use it to escape and B) he needs a way to escape heroes who would otherwise catch him too easily. I can just see him doing evil and then a good guy comes along who's faster than him, smarter, or has more FS and then my character's screwed cuz he can't retreat. What do you think? o-o I will take this away if you want me to, but I just wanted to defend my choice of keeping it before I remove it completely.

Also, I added height, weight, and age. I was also going to add a section in the Other Notes area about how his race reproduced, since I also added other bits about his biology elsewhere in his profile, and what that meant for his love life, but I thought it was generally irrelevant so I took it out.

So, I think that's it. What do you think?

I think this application is completely ready to go and very well written. The whole traveling underground idea sits fine with me, just don't abuse it. Enjoy your time here at SHRPG.

Approved, and adding your grid now.
