OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September Empty OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September

Post by Saileyra September 9th 2013, 2:27 pm

In the most capable world, people would not fall to their greed nor their wrath but in this one? It was peace, solemn, and without a mark it was a place that took away her one friend Shi. He was no longer able to walk, images of him being easily stripped of ability so almost dishonorably in battle. No death, just a living cripple, incapable of moving but for truth she knew he would be well taken care of within the walls of the OCEAN HQ. It was a remote location and not many knew of it..she was sure of this. Zell may have found Shi but he did not know of her headquarters so luckily the man of death was safe within the walls of the Sanctuary they called home.

Today was a big day for her operatives, there were few who signed up for the seminar Angel and herself came up with. It was a no powers ball game and she was going to teach them some basic combat skills. Enough so this probably wouldn't happen again, at least, the people would follow suit and she would take roll call as they would appear. It was a brutally hot day in the open field behind the large HQ. The oasis surrounding the field which the large island their HQ rested on cooled the heat with a gentle breeze. Crossing her arms, there were various targets, sparring rings, it was..intense; Saileyra was dressed to fight. Then again, she was always dressed to fight... but it was here OCEAN would take it's steps with it's new recruits.

This was the usual training, and those who did not show up..would not go on the next mission unless completely dire. It would become mandatory once signed up for..and well, Saileyra did not tolerate tardiness. She was sure everyone would show up accordingly to the holographic private message they got in their computers.. Focus showed in her eyes, she would wait..who would be the first to show up? It couldn't begin without her instructors..and her students..

OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September Empty Re: OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September

Post by Black Steel September 10th 2013, 1:03 am

Well, today was the day Steel would hopefully get into the world and make himself a part of a generation he had no business being in. To be honest, coming into O.C.E.A.N almost immediately after his awakening from his stasis was jarring. The technology was completely advanced from the old dinosaur-age machines of his day and age. Now, he wasn't about to go around saying, "Aaah, you young uns need to appreciate the older generation!" No, he was adaptable, he could get used to things like this easily, but it was still amazing. Of course, that didn't mean he was opposed to the older days, either, he was respectable to both of them, he was basically a link between those worlds.

He shook those thoughts away from his mind, they wouldn't help him very much in this training mission. Steel needed to get his head in the game, he needed to experience and take in the knowledge the future had to offer him. He took nothing with him, besides his large bowie knife, which he kept strapped to his thigh. Over his ripped chest he wore a black, sleeveless t-shirt, God knew that the weather wouldn't be easy on him today, coupled with a pair of comfort-fitting army shorts and his favorite black combat boots. Walking to the corner of the room, he decided he'd better be safe than sorry, and picked up his utility belt, which held a standard glock with a couple of extra clips. His eyes travelled to the sharpened stick of jungle wood that he had used to traverse the harsh jungle on his way to the H.Q. It still had the dried blood of the creature he had killed in the night, he didn't even know what he had killed, it was so dark at that time..

Steel strapped the belt to his waist and turned to the door, alright, he was ready now. Pressing a button on the wall, the door slid open, and he stepped outside his room, seeing many other operatives walk the halls. Sliding past them silently, he made his way to the "back door" of the facility, leading him to the plains where he would be training today. Twice he had to check his map of the facility, but he eventually made it, the walk there being a work out itself. Steel saw that the area had been set up, making for a rough-looking session for him and whoever else had signed up for this. Seeing the only other person in the area, he immediately assumed that it was Sailerya, apparently the O.C.E.A.N's leader figure. Steel walked up to her, stopping at a reasonable distance before taking his usual pose that was used for addressing commanding officers and saying, "Ell Aspida, better known as Black Steel, reporting for duty, ma'am!"

OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September Empty Re: OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September

Post by Lochstar September 10th 2013, 7:23 am

Zoom came well, Zooming towards the training grounds. Ever since he'd joined OCEAN he'd been on an euphoric high. The potential to fight villainy had skyrocketed and he felt as if almost anything was possible. But right now, he was about to go through basic training and all it entitled. Not exactly the greatest start to his career as an operative of OCEAN but not terrible either. He was dressed in a loose tank top which highlighted his decently built frame. He was far from the strongest or most imposing individual in the world of superheroes but sprinters couldn't be weighed down by huge bulky builds. He was also wearing a pair of loose pants and was already regretting it, they seemed to just catch the heat and for someone who literally had to sprint everywhere as his power it was hell. In addition it was the first time he'd sped without his mask on and it was an odd sensation to be sure. He felt liberated to be able to run freely but also, somehow exposed.

He wasn't going anywhere near top speed due to the danger that posed to pretty much anyone around him, but he was moving fast enough for everyone to know he was a speedster. A solid 100 or so miles per hour, about a fifth of his total speed. His speed, damn. He had heard about the no powers rule in his briefing and was slightly annoyed about it, for him it wasn't as simple as, now I throw fire, now I don't. There was no "on" or "off" switch. It was a conscious effort to act at a normal speed let alone defend himself from an onslaught of attacks at normal speed. But he'd wanted to challenge himself. He considered himself a master of Karate and knew pretty much all there was to know about the martial art but he was still far from perfect and he wanted to get pretty damn close to it.

He didn't know what he was going to learn but he figured it would have to be a help to him considering for him he'd pretty much just milked what he thought he should do as a her after getting his speed and any help was considered beneficial. Up until now he'd pretty much just relied on his speed being able to overwhelm anyone, but he knew he'd eventually meet someone who could outclass him and at that point...well it would be handy to be able to fall back on basic survival and fighting skills. Suddenly he would slow and then come to a stop before casually walking towards where Saileyra and a man he had not yet met stood. Not that to surprised him, he didn't know many people at OCEAN and it was all essentially a blur. A blur to him, ha! "Well Zoom is here and reporting for duty." Skylar would say awkwardly still unsure about how he was supposed to refer to his superiors.

He would then turn to the other man present, who seemed to carry a knife, probably some military type. Chuckling to himself Zoom would walk over to him impossibly fast and extend his hand, a slight show of speed. His grip in the handshake would not be crushing but would be enough to show strength of character and to test it. "Good to meet you." Zoom would say with a nod of his head. "You wouldn't happen to have a name like Joe or something U.S military would you?" he asked with a jovial tone to his voice, he was trying to break the ice with a joke of some kind and it was also a decent way to learn more about the mysterious guy before him.

OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September Empty Re: OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September

It was intolerable to watch Shi like this. Yeah, the guy and I always rapped on each other but it was all in good fun. Or at least it was on my end. Who knows, maybe he does see me as an intolerable pest. Not that it matters anymore. Despite his inability to stand or walk, the Samurai kept in high spirits, especially as he wheeled himself down the hall next to me as we encroached upon the boss lady and her newest little minions. I kept walking until I was by Sailerya and sighed, slightly annoyed.

”I hate being late…Sorry by the way…I have no Idea how to work those floating image thinga-majiggs. I didn’t even know I was an instructor until Shi told me.” I admitted a sorry look on my face. I then looked to the two students before me. I did not have a lot to work with.  They were just having a grand old time. At least this kid with the awesome black hair was professional. I was about to let it go before I heard…

"You wouldn't happen to have a name like Joe or something U.S military would you?"

”Alright ladies, quiet down. You can giggle, gossip and exchange digits later. I’m Instructor Jake, and I’m already plenty pissed off about the cause of this training as it is, so I’d advise you to keep quiet. I’m all for getting to know each other, but that’s on YOUR time. You’re on Sailerya’s time now, and on mine. You’ll do as your told, without hesitation and without mistake. Are we clear oper-Oper….op-op-oper-A-Tive?” I ended it up blathering and triupping over my own tongue.

”Operatives.” Shi finished it for me.

”Yeah...that.” I said as I crossed my arms. Of course I was wearing my usual clothing…which was barely any at all to be honest. It was just a boxer-brief styled swimsuit and a necklace. Apparently to most mortals I look like a black haired surfer-dude or something. Not entirely sure what that means but it’s whatever at this point.

”Students. You are here today because of failure. MY Failure. I was weak, where as an operative must be strong. Where I should have been unbreakable, I faltered. I had hesitations, and was reluctant to match blades with my old pupil. He had no such hesitations, and as such he had no limitations. I failed OCEAN…I disgraced myself, and this…this contraption I am bound to is a constant reminder of my failure. This training today, will hopefully make you more prepared. OCEAN calls that there are NO mistakes…and I am living reason why. Look at me…I cannot walk. I can hardly dress myself. I was a warrior, an incarnation of Death itself, seeking retribution and the way to protect mankind from the wickedness of Evil. I made a mistake…and now I am nothing more than a leech. Not a moment goes by when I am in these walls where I do not know of what OCEAN has done for me. Even after it was I whom failed them. I am unfit and all around unworthy of the treatment OCEAN has given me. OCEAN…The acronym is stated clearly…but it has another meaning…a meaning that I have learned from first hand experience. Opportunity to Change Events and Achieve Newness. This world…is sick. This world…is dying. I will not lie…There is nothing more than I desire than to be killed for my failure. However…it is not about what I WANT…. It is not about what any of us WANT. OCEAN is the cure for dying world, and though we may not like it, though we may despise it…OCEAN is not about what we want….it is about what this world NEEDS. I live here today so that my failure can be seen, and as such I can instruct you to stand where I have fallen, to slay where I should have been slain. Operatives…OCEAN is your family…and your family  is the key to curing this sick world…and if we can not cure it…” Shi’s speech was reaching it’s lengthy end, he looked over to Sai, smiled a little. ”Then we will raise it as a Pheonix…because YOU are OCEAN…and YOU will NOT fail.” Shi said, the words were projected to the students, all of them, all whom would have entered or otherwise. But in truth, the words were to Saileyra, and Shi was sure she knew him well enough to pick up on that. Shi’s faith, the Faith of Death, the Faith of God…was in her.

OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September Empty Re: OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September

Post by Count Solar September 16th 2013, 5:41 pm

The sun finished it’s descent below the horizon, though it made no difference to those in the troposphere. For the past several hours, the sky had been completely engulfed by a storm. The conditions had been steadily worsening, and the winds were tempestuous. The rain had picked up, and was pelting the Earth like machine gun fire from above. The lightning and resulting thunder were seemingly perpetual, and had not stopped for a few hours.

Amidst the storm, a lone island stood in the middle of the Pacific. It was a small island, maybe 1.5 square miles total. Officially it belonged to Daniel Trumb, founder and CEO of Trumbone, one of the world’s largest record and label companies. However, he “rented” it out to Edward Monroe, who could stay on it whenever he wanted, so long as no major alterations were made without Trumb’s consent.

Venatorus had been on the island for the past month, give or take a few days. It was the first place he fled to whenever he needed seclusion, and he so desperately needed it now. After the incident with Sai and the bar, his psyche was severely damaged, and he needed to be alone with his thoughts. So he had went to the island, and nobody else knew where he was. Well, theoretically. He was sure Sai could have Plural track him down if she wanted, but it was truly of no consequence whether or not they knew. He planned to forgo his hiatus from OCEAN and civilization within a few days anyways.

After he had practically destroyed the bar, and he and Sai were witnessed fighting the metahumans in public, he knew that there would be little chance of him keeping his job. So he publicly resigned, and made several fiscal changes. Venatorus had two hundred and fifty million dollars put aside in case of extreme emergencies, but the rest was made out to charities. Some went to already existing ones, but most went into making his own, the Monroe House of Health, an organization dedicated to developing and distributing vaccines, making sure everyone had clean water, and attempting to eradicate most major diseases.

Venatorus sat in a large cave on the north side of island. It was where he had first set up shelter and where he had resided ever since. It was a good thing too; any normal shelter would have been devastated by the storm. The cave was protected by a large rock formation, which helped to keep the water from getting in.

A book lay open a few feet from him. Farther into the cave there were several more books, and dozens, if not hundreds, of bottles that used to contain alcohol. He had found, once again, that there was almost no way for him to become inebriated.

On his lap was a small compact laptop. He had disabled the internet on it, though it was extremely unlikely he would have gotten wi-fi out there anyway. But it was turned off anyways, and he was simply using it to design. Design, build and modify. Using a program on his computer, he had made several new inventions for OCEAN and personal use, though most of them would just be saved, and never put into action. He had thousands of inventions that would never be made, but he kept designing more anyways. Usually it was the result of boredom, but recently it was so he stayed sane. Taking ideas, and putting them down on paper (or its digital counterpart) was one of the few tasks that could ease his stress racked brain, and he took advantage of any reprieve that he could find.

While he had yet to discover why exactly his emotions had been screwed up recently, he had managed to deal with them. It was nowhere near what he craved, but it would do for now; at least he was functioning again. And as such, he believed it was time to rejoin the world.

THREE DAYS LATER

Venatorus walked up to the group of greatly contrasting individuals. None of them held his attention so much as his commanding officer, Saileyra. He approached her cautiously; he had left without contacting anyone, including her, for over a month. He knew not how she would react, but he had been told that he was requested as an instructor on a training course, so here he was.

Raising his hand in greeting, he walked up to her.

Sai, I’m so sorry. I have nothing but my words to offer as amends, so I hope that they will suffice. I swear though, I will never again leave you, or OCEAN.

OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September Empty Re: OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September

Post by Saileyra September 25th 2013, 10:28 am

It was time to get to business, these guys were those whom were fighters but not adept. Her worries consisted of the following, these fuckers were going down a path were they could end up like Shi. Shi was capable, but no longer was he and she wasn't truly expecting a surprise pattern from her. Waiting, she would stand with her arms crossed, who would be the first one to come? Noticing from the distance, her eyes scanned Black Steel her eyes scanning him. She had yet to meet him, her was Black Angels Recruit, her eyes staring at him. She'd approach, she walked like a predator one hip swayed over another as she came to a halt in front of him. Strong form glided to a stop as she tilted her head lips pursing as she had smirked in his direction, "Nice seeing you today." She said nodding once, "Thank you for joining OCEAN. I'm afraid Black Angel couldn't make it." She said shaking his hand, her eyes glancing over to notice Zoom.

He was just recently recruited as well, his challenge was to dumb down his speed to learn the value of combatives. She knew it would be hard for him but she was sure he would keep up with the others on a common human speed scale. It would teach him restraint, discipline, and able to use his speed in a non-telegraphic motion. Licking her lips, her eyes scanned the only two recruits willing to be put through hell this week. There was a list of others, who didn't show up; they would see her wrath since they hadn't. Tilting her head, she knew Angel could not make it..something had come up somewhere along the way. The other female was always on the move somehow even if she had made plans with her to be here. Saileyra glanced over to find Yam and Shi. Part of her heat sunk, the man was confined for the rest of his life because of Zell fuckin' Arterrius.

If OCEAN wasn't so fucking important and she didn't fucking spend all her time fighting it through for OCEAN she would have hunted his ass down. But, this small family was more important until time came where trouble for many people would occur she was sure Zell would not cause much trouble for society. "Operatives." She said at the same time as Shi with a smirk on her face. Shortly after, Shi provided a speech of some sort; part of her disagreed she thought he was strong far from weak but he was alone. It was dishonorable in some ways to his kind, to his people, but she was sure he knew he was among family. Turning her head away from Shi, she remained silent as she had to wait for one more. It seemed like minutes passed, she had invited Venatorus; worry hit her system but as stoic as her face had remained.

Their little moment at the bar ruined her focus as of late, she went to check up on him and he had left. It made her wonder, was he really gone? She managed to find his location through triangulation and sent him an invitation. Surely, with his mood swings as of late he was having a hard time coming up with own stability. Hearing the grass crunch, her head lifted and she noticed him approach. An approving smirk came over her features as her arms slowly uncrossed, despite her eyes betraying some sort of relief in his direction as she stared. "Don't start. I'm glad to have you back." She said shaking his hand. "We'll talk about your adventures later?" She said, her voice despite being firm her hand squeezed his in a worried fashion her hand falling to her side as she brushed past him.

"Operatives!" She said, "Since there only two of you. You will not be allowed to use your powers. We will start simple. Simple is not easy either I want you both to tackle this obstacle course while the rest of us beat the shit out of you." She said flatly, "We will be allowed to use ours. This is called endurance training." She said, her voice stern, fair as she stared at the both of them.

Behind them they would notice it was set up, first, a swinging trench, razor wire to climb through, it was like a vault almost. Before them, a large wall, it was covered in mud, mold, it was kind of gross but it made sense. Senses training, endurance training; before there it was a watery straight away. It looked like a slip and slide; above a set of monkey bars. It was a choice it seemed like because there was a large platform alongside the monkey bard and below there was just a simple watery pond. One can assume there would be some advantages or disadvantages depending on where they picked. From there there would be the two final stretches, the large hopping stones that lead to a narrow climbing wall. It..looked too small for some reason, lined next to it a bunch of air soft guns loaded with god knows what. "First one to the top gets a prize." She said crossing her arms, staring, "Any questions?"

OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September Empty Re: OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September

Post by Lochstar October 11th 2013, 6:55 am

Zoom was startled slightly at the speech man in the wheelchair made, he certainly hadn't been expecting it. However as soon as he was done Zoom realized what it would be like to be confined to a wheelchair, particularly for him. When he ran he was free, liberated. To have that taken from him would be...unbearable. He respected the man for his sheer willpower, he could have easily let it crush him but he still did his best to move around and contribute. Was this what it meant to be OCEAN? Shaking the thoughts from his head Zoom began lightly hopping from foot to foot trying to warm up before suddenly the bomb was dropped. No powers.

The obstacle course would have been a breeze. If he wasn't limited to the frustratingly slow pace of normal people. Resisting the urge to face palm he nearly cringed at the fact that numerous people would be launching their powers at him while he was trying to complete the course. Closing his eyes Zoom would compose himself having well and truly stopped hopping from foot to foot before suddenly opening them. Shooting Black Steel a wry grin he would promptly say, "The sooner we start the sooner this finishes." before he would crouch down and allow his more playful side to come to the light. "Race ya." he said before taking off at normal speed.

It had been difficult to resist but he managed to not take off at full speed. Restraint was key here as he really didn't want to get in trouble for breaking the rules straight off the bat before it even truly began. Running forward at a normal pace Zoom would leap over the trench without very much difficulty before continuing to crawl through the barbed wire likely attaining many scratches which would heal pretty much instantly. This wasn't technically using his powers however as there was no way to deactivate this constant ability he possessed.

Of course he would probably be barraged with numerous attacks as soon as he set off...

OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September Empty Re: OCEAN: Routine Training Late August and Early September

((OOC: Sorry for the wait. Been all over the place lately @_@))

Steel felt a wash of guilt and sorrow for the man, but he never showed it to the others. Pity for the wounded was dishonorable, the man gave up his legs to help protect the innocent, and that was good enough reason for him to trust the man entirely. Now, the only way he could help the man wasn't by doing anything for him directly, it would be to continue his job of protection. Steel saluted when he was finished, and waited for instruction before simply nodding. It would be a tough run, with no powers, but he wasn't a person who relied solely on his powers alone. He unclipped his gun and set it to the ground, along with his Bowie knife, assuming that weapons were not to be used as well as powers. It seemed the man next to him, Zoom, would have a little trouble as shock was visibly seen on his face.

"Don't worry. I'm sure you'll do fine." An empty promise, he had no idea what the kid was capable of, but he did seem to boast a strength that rivaled his own. It looked like the guy just wanted this to be over with, and even gave him some extra incentive by trying to race him, "Is this not already a race? I must have misunderstood the task..." Sarcasm, of course, but Steel wasn't planning on trying to win the race. If he could make it through the course without a problem, that would be a personal victory. He walked over to the course, and stretched out while waiting for the kid to start. Once he saw Zoom...well, zoom...over the trench, he grabbed onto the rope and swung, rolling as he hit the ground and coming up unscathed. Next was the barbwire, which was literally no problem for Steel, as he crawled right through it, letting it snap and twist around his body. Technically this wouldn't be against the rule, as his hardening of the skin was able to be toggled, but not his natural durability.

It looked as though the instructors hadn't been able, or just hadn't felt the need to use their powers yet, so Steel took this chance as a blessing. He made it right through the barbed wire without a scratch...well, his skin, at least. His clothes had been torn to all hell, his t-shirt so ripped up that it fell apart as he stood up, luckily, his pants didn't do the same. Now Steel readied himself for a barrage of attacks, his subconscious mind telling him to harden up, but he willpower won over his instincts. Now he had two choices, use the slide to gain some initial speed, with the hindrance of having to trek through water, which was always tough for him, or use the bars. Hopefully they would be able to hold up his weight as he jumped up and grabbed onto the first one. As he grabbed onto the next bar he prayed that a random bolt of fire or something wouldn't knock him off.
