The Legacy

Personality: Ari is stubborn, short-tempered, strong-willed, and impulsive. Despite claiming not to care about what other people think about him, he attempts to maintain a detached and "cool" image. He generally keeps his face set in a near-permanent scowl, with his eyebrows drawn together. His outspoken, hot-headed demeanor is a trait Ari himself acknowledges, and if somebody picks a fight with him, he cannot help fighting back. He is genuinely compassionate and empathetic towards others, often trying to soothe those who are upset and aggressive.

History: In ancient times, there were legends of a race of people who had transcended the limits of human nature. These beings had forgone the typical methods of humanity, and decided instead to set about taming the very light of the sun itself. Unbelievably, they had succeeded, rising above those who had doubted them, and becoming a thing of legends. Humans from all over began to congregate towards what they now believed to be deities of a higher power, hoping for them to share even an ounce of their knowledge, but they did not. Every so often, one of them would pick a commoner to procreate with, and create what would be referred to as a half breed, but they rarely if every showed any of their 'heavenly' lineage.

Years passed by slowly, and one by one the ascended began to die and as they did, their blood became more and more polluted, until barely any remnants of them remained. Time would pass, and history would forget about them, sending their legacy to the realms of lore. More time would pass, and they would be completely forgotten, swept under the mantle of time, never to be thought upon again.

Now, thousands upon thousands of years later, a boy is born. His legacy, though unremarkable to the untrained eye, leads directly back to these beings. No one knows, however, and expect nothing of the boy. He is raised in a very average manner, go to school, make friends, get a tattoo at eighteen, just a regular teenage boy, growing up on the streets of New York. When the attack happened, his family relocated, moving to Los Angeles. He had his up and downs, his first loves and his heart breaks, but all in all, he led a rather unremarkable life. He had seen stories of heroes, meta humans and the like rising up to defend their fellow man, but he never even thought he could be one.

On the eve of his nineteenth birthday, however, that all changed. Maybe it was an alignment of the moon, or maybe just some crazy circumstance, but, as he lie in bed, attempting to get even a few hours sleep after a night of the college life, something inside of him changed. He was awoken to the feeling of his body being ignited. It didn't just feel like his body was on fire, it felt like he WAS fire. Every inch of him burned and he let out a terrible shriek of agony, crashing onto the floor and scaring his roommate.

Days later he awoke in the ER, surrounded by friends, loved ones, and very confused doctors. He looked very healthy, and nothing was wrong on any of his test. With that, the craziness passed, and everything soon returned to normal, though a crazy feeling never left the back of his head. What exactly had happened? Was this just some crazy coincidence?

Two years passed, and now a police officer for NYPD, the night hardly ever came to mind. Sometimes, he would be lying in bed, looking at the stars, and the night would briefly flash in his mind, but he no longer paid it any mind. Well, that is, until he was chasing a perp and nearly lost him.

He didn't know what it was, but damn this kid was fast. Maybe it was one of the metas who had returned to New York, or maybe the kid was just naturally fast, but Ari couldn't help but fall farther and farther behind this kid. As his heart pounded, sweat poured from his face, and his arm out stretched, hoping somehow he could stretch just far enough to grab this kids collar, his wish was granted. Before he could react he felt the soft cloth of the collar of his shirt, and he gripped tightly, catching the kid.

The thrill and rush of what had happened didn't ever leave him, and he spent the next few months honing exactly what had happened, and mastering how to control it. Eventually, he found other avenues to express this power over the next two years, rising through the ranks to become a detective. He had a rule, though. He would never let his fellow officers see his powers, even if it meant letting a perp get away. Last thing he needed was to be in some meta prison, or be harassed for his abilities.

The Powers and Weaknesses

(All characters can be as powerful as they want, as long as they are balanced with proper weaknesses.)
Powers

Power 1: Light Manipulation - Ari is capable of manipulating rays of light of various wave lengths to accomplish task depending on the color of the beam.

Red Shift: A wavelength fired that emanates a deep crimson color. It carries far more heat than most other rays, capable of melting through steel beams.

Yellow Shift: A golden beam of light, that works like most energy blast. The beam compresses light into a physical form, which pierces through most objects.

White Shift: A beam with an ethereal feel and look to it. This beam uses light to grab at objects from a distance, creating a chain of light between the object and the user.

Green Shift: A viridian beam of light. This beam turns light into a physical object, allowing the user to make constructs to fit their various needs.

Power 2: Heavenly Body - Ari’s body is composed almost completely out of light, making it so he is able to phase through physical attacks at will.

Power 3: Teleportation - Ari’s body being made of light, he is able to break it down, and rebuild it at another location at near the speed of light, making for instant teleportation.

Power 4: Enhanced Reaction Time - Because Ari’s body, including his eyes, take in so much light, he perceives things a bit differently. The best way to describe it is that he sees the entire world one to two seconds before everyone else does

Power 5: Healing factor - Because Ari’s body is made of mostly light, he is able to regenerate parts of his body that get injured with his powers.

Weakness(es)

Weakness 1: I’m afraid of the dark! - Areas of complete darkness inhibit Ari’s ability to heal himself, there being no light for him to draw upon.

Weakness 2: Power of Will- All the light created stems from Ari's inner will. The harder he pushes himself the stronger they become. The inverse however, is also true. If a foe were to cause him to lose the will to fight his attacks would weaken rapidly.

Weakness 3: Concentration- the green constructs need to actively be focused on to maintain their form. Any distraction would cause them to deteriorate rapidly and eventually fade away.

Weakness 4: Can’t dodge them all - Although Ari has enhanced reflexes, he still has to have the ability to dodge it. If the opponent is much faster than him, his body will not be able to keep up with his eyesight.

Weakness 5: I can’t see it! - Although Ari can teleport, he cannot teleport into heavily shaded areas, such as alleyways, etc. General rule of thumb is if there isn’t enough light to rebuild himself, he cannot teleport there.

Weakness 6: How did you hit me?! - Even though he is able to phase through attacks he can see, he cannot phase through what he doesn’t know is coming. Meaning surprise attacks, and attacks that he didn’t anticipate, will still hit him.

Weakness 7: I walk through the valley of Shadow and Death - Due to how his body is composed, dark energy effects Ari more than normal. This applies to all forms of darkness, whether meta or magical based.
