The Looks

Griswold, in his natural state, is a handsome man and a product of rich pedigree. He keeps his hair short and only sports short, greying stubble. A life of luxury and strenuous adventure has mildly aged him beyond his years, although he does try to take care of himself. Naturally a lanky man, Griswold has managed to bolster his slender frame with lean musculature from many years of practicing various exotic forms of martial arts.

Unlike other men of his high financial standing, who follow the latest fashion trends, Griswold standard attire can be summarized as outdated and gaudy. Griswold wears his signature red blazer, with a purple silk shirt, white tie, and plaid white slacks. The coat itself houses several pockets for various gadgets and his personal handgun if the situation calls for it.

The Legacy

Personality:
On a fundamental level, Griswold holds a deep faith in Humanity’s ability for good. Griswold does his best to contribute to this overall good, although the means in which he does this is objectionable by most standards. Due to his abilities, Griswold has no qualms about bending and breaking the laws to add to his already large fortune. A large portion of the money and items that he steals, he puts towards founding new or contributing to existing charities.

Griswold is by no means a saint. The large sums of money he has acquired has made him confident, almost to the point of blatant arrogance. In addition to his career as a thief and bank robber, Griswold also has a penchant for rich and expensive vice. If one receives an invitation to a party at Fairbanks Manor, one will be subjected to debauchery beyond anything they could possibly fathom. This appetite for extravagance may also be a side effect of Griswold’s ability as a face-shifter. The more Griswold uses his abilities as a face-shifter, the more he wonders who he truly is. Sometimes the only answers he finds are at the bottom of an expensive bottle of wine.

History:
Griswold Fairbanks was the son of Media Mogul and Man of Adventure, Arthur Fairbanks. Griswold never knew his mother, and through his guessing, assumes that she was another poor woman somewhere in South America who his father had conquered on one of his many treks. Fortunately for Griswold, his father took him under his wing and preened him to become the eventual leader of Arthur’s media empire, Fairbanks Media Network.

From an early age, Griswold knew there was something that made him different from other children his age. At five years old he had the first in a long line of reoccurring dreams. The dream began with young Griswold walking through a dark and humid rainforest. The path which he followed lead to an ancient forest grotto. Inside this grotto was a thick, black lake. Around the lake stood six tribal shamans, each wearing a white mask, each softly chanting an unfamiliar incantation. Eventually Griswold began to understand them as they beckoned him to peer into the black pool. When he did, Griswold watched in shock as his face began to shift and contort into a new form. As the transformation took place, he felt the bones and muscles in his face shift and move, groaning and cracking beneath the skin. For as long as he has had the same dream, he never has been able to see the face in the lake.

As he began to grow, the way his face changed in the dream began to spill over into reality. He would feel the muscles in his face begin to contract and the bones shake in the middle of his elementary school classes, causing him to run home in a panic. Griswold would always ask his father what was happening to him, but Arthur would only assure his son that everything would be fine, and that he had a special gift. Eventually his father would die abruptly, before explaining what he truly meant.

In his early teens, Griswold developed several hobbies. He did skeet shooting to take his mind off how much his face hurt during its many contortions and, he read history and mythology to hopefully uncover what and who he really was and, the oddest of all, people watching. Griswold was compelled to watch people wherever he went, especially their faces.

Griswold would walk everywhere, making notes of people’s faces wherever he went.  He would observe faces so much that he would have exceedingly vivid images of people, most of which he’d never met, locked away in his brain. When the contortions began again, Griswold would focus on the images of people’s faces. This technique seemed to exacerbate the contortions, making them more painful and longer lasting. When he was fifteen years old, Griswold had his worst episode, lasting for nearly three hours. The pain was so excruciating that he blacked out. When he came to, he looked into the mirror and, to his shock, realized that the face he was looking at was no longer his. The sight of this alone caused him to black out again, and his face to return back to its natural state.

At age 18, Griswold’s father's private jet crashed somewhere in Siberia, presumably killing him. Tragically, Griswold would never hear his father explain the superhuman gift which had been bestowed upon him. As stated in Arthur's will, Griswold became sole owner of Fairbanks Media Network and the vast fortune tied to it. Griswold promptly rejected this responsibility. He gave sole ownership of FMN to the board of directors, only keeping a relatively small portion of the Fairbanks fortune to himself. With the money he had, Griswold traveled the world, hoping to find answers about his abilities. While he found very little evidence on the origin of his ability, he managed to hone the face-shifting ability to a point where it became second nature to "steal" people's faces.

On his return to the United States, Griswold used what money he had left to purchase a large home and set up several charities and other non-profit organizations. Griswold knew he would have to be crafty to fuel these noble organizations, and since he gave away his father’s company, he would have to do it on his own. Griswold turned to large scale theft. With his abilities, he stole millions of dollars, all of which he funded his various investments with. By day, he was be whoever he wanted to with no real threat of being caught, and by night he could be the famously decadent man that the tabloids came to know and envy.

The Powers

Power 1: Face-shifting: For unknown reasons, Griswold has the ability to alter the structure of his face to perfectly mimic the facial structure of any other human. Mainly Griswold uses this powers to subtly breech bank or museum security systems on one of his many heists. While very useful, Griswold cannot mimic the voice or body of the subject.

Power 2: Master Pistoleer: After years of target shooting at country clubs, Griswold has become deadly accurate when using a pistol. Griswold also has a knack for tinkering with the guns themselves, loading them with special types of rounds such as tranquilizer shots. His preferred gun of choice is a Mauser C96.

Power 3: Martial Arts Proficiency: After backpacking through Eurasia in his late teens and early twenties, Griswold trained with various martial arts masters. While his abilities are not superhuman, he is proficient enough to defend himself from most foes, human or superhuman.

Power 4: Grappling Gun: While not a weapon per se, Griswold’s grappling gun allows him to make a quick escape if his other abilities fail him. Occasionally, if he has enough cocktails, Griswold uses his grappling gun to swing between buildings. So far, he hasn’t injured himself too terribly.

Use this for referencing. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Wealth only goes up to 5 to begin with. You don't need points in both Intelligence and Occult unless your character is an expert in both fields. The first 3 levels equate for each other otherwise.

You also don't need the 2 points in magic.
