Personality: Nice, but reserved. Has Chivalric tendencies and is generally polite, but he has a snarky side (however rare it might be). He will protect his friends with every bit of his skill, and will be the first to take a bullet (unless the intended receiver will shrug it off, like many superheroes do).

History: Derreck was the son of a ‘Nam war vet, and was taught self-defense and CQC growing up, but told not to use it unless attacked first. This early experience led to a young life of training, and he quickly gained much knowledge in the way of martial arts. He went to college for some teaching skills so he could open a dojo, and there met a friend named Andy Hull. Andy was an archeology major specializing in eastern artifacts, and he befriended Derreck. He offered Dereck a chance to go into the east, where an ancient buried dojo had been found. Derreck took the chance to learn more about the martial arts he loved and to spend some time with his friend. However, when they got there, there was a strange man at the site. He wore an armband of Jade and Gold and a gii. He said that the dojo was a temple to some form of god and that trespassers were not allowed. The archeologists tried to get him to move, but he refused and proceeded to fight his way through them, displaying speed none of them had ever seen. Derreck fought against him, and to the strange man’s surprise, managed to fight him to a standstill. The man stopped fighting, and told Derreck he would stop attacking if he could beat him in one-on-one combat. Derreck decided to stop the fighting by defeating him, and the soon went through a kind of ritual combat, which Derreck won, much to his own surprise. As the man’s defeat, his armband fell off and Derreck picked it up. A calm male voice suddenly spoke into his head. It explained it was a spirit from the fold of the god the man had been talking about. Because Derreck defeated the man in hand-to-hand ritual combat, the spirit and its powers were now his. The spirit also extended permission for the group to enter the dojo and study it, so long as they did not damage anything. At nights, the spirit would train Derreck in a new martial art called Kulan-Do, designed to use the speed it granted to the maximum. After some time, Derreck returned to the U.S, fully trained, and he decided to use his powers to protect those who could not protect themselves. So he became the Jade Warrior.

Powers: Derreck can move much faster than a normal human, and has heightened reflexes as well. Any wound inflicted on him by anything but bare fists (or any weapon an animal can have naturally, like a wolf’s claws. Shapeshifted humans and non-animal creatures do not count as this) heals much quicker.

Character Image/Description: Derreck is a fit man, lean muscle and not an ounce of fat on his body, attained from plenty of training. He always wears his armband, which is decorated in an eastern style with jades inserted into the metal, but often covers it up as it would kind of give his secret identity away. . He looks rather unassuming other than this. You'll see what I mean when I can post the picture.

Roleplay Sample:

Derreck watched as the overly muscled brute in front of him roared in his face. Not flinching, he waited until he was done posturing, then spoke. “So… what do you want again?”

The oaf spoke, his voice a roar. An unintelligent, brutish roar, but a roar nonetheless. “I want you to surrender to me! The mighty SMASHER!”

Derreck sighed. It never got easier dealing with people like this. “Why? All you’ve done is yell in my face. You show no skill in fighting, and appear to just smash everything around you. I see no reason to give up a fight not yet started.”

The gigantic criminal appeared confused by the puny man in the gii not being scared of him. A calm voice spoke in Derreck’s head. “Why wait to fight him? You could take him out easily while he’s still posturing.” Derreck responded, thinking so the thug in front of him would not be even more confused. “Honestly, I’m not sure if he’s worth it. I might just wait for his brain to give out.”

The idiot eventually seemed to get what Derreck was saying. “ARE YOU CALLING ME STUPID?! I’LL SMASH YOU!” He raised his arms, muscles flexing, as he prepared a clumsy overhead strike with his arms clasped together, evidently meaning to hammer his target into the ground. Derreck simply danced away as the hands his, and then responded with a swift kick to the temple, knocking out the brute.
