The Legacy

Personality:
Valentine was not always the way she is now. Her childhood consisted of a spoiled little girl who always got her way. Coming from a family of extreme wealth, her parents tried to mask their failure in keeping their marriage with the happiness of gifts, money and whatever she wanted. This carried on until her mother’s death, although the soft side of her always seemed to shine through when she tried to take others pain for them. It became more of a bad habit really, expecting to get what she wanted. However, now, she acts selfless as ever and rarely asks for anything. When she had gotten so used to getting what she wanted, she was caught off guard when her mother didn’t revive when she so desperately begged her to. This changed her inside, and now she lives to simply serve. She wants to make others as happy as she wishes she could be to try and mask the pain many people don’t know she has.

She appears as a girl of little words, when in reality, her mind never stops talking. It consistently blabbers on and on about her worthlessness, and how her parent’s marriage and mother’s death were both equally her fault. Everything that goes wrong in her world is her fault. This has left her a little disconnected, but in battle she is strong and headfirst, never hesitating to take pain from others. By herself she is often writing in her books, but tries to laugh and smile at anything she can when with others. She just prefers to keep quiet.

She admires her teammates vigor and valor above all, and treats her dog like a prince. With the money left to her in her mother’s will, she tries to do what she can with the large amount of money she was given, but finds it hard as she no longer wishes to spend on herself. (Apart from the occasional dress.) All in all, Valentine makes for a good friend. She’s there for you, smiles and laughs for you, literally feels your pain for you, and finally, heals you. She is just waiting for someone to at least almost equally be there for her.

History:
Valentine’s life has always been a mess. A huge Mess in a huge, rich household. The only fond memories she is ever able to pull from her life is from her childhood when the world was bright and she thought she lived within a world of candies, rainbows and everlasting sunshine. This all ceased when she was finally old enough to realise that her parent’s happiness was nowhere near what she had imagined it was out. She was always taught that your parent’s were paired together by destiny to love one another for the for of your time; but it appeared that in this case, her family was doing something wrong. They bought her a dog and told her that if she had any problems, to tell it, their dog Cooper, everything rather than them. As she approached her pre-teen years, she discovered that she was able to feel the pain of others. It first occurred one argument, one that her parents desperately tried to mask from her by appointing it at the dead of night, but their yelling had woken her up regardless. She tapped into her mother and father’s minds, by accident, and began to bear their mental pain. Her brain pulsed and her feelings fluctuated. She received major headaches but it appeared to calm down the two while they fought. She could instantly feel, at the age of 12, how much pain her parent’s were in together and she continued to bear their pain during every argument for as long as she could. She told nobody about this, because she they would immediately dish her into a crazy house. If anyone was crazy, it was her parents’. She did not complain however. She held her dog, her only friend throughout the years and listened to her mother cry and beg for change for years on end, but she was too afraid to tell her to do anything. That was, until she reached an age at which she thought it was finally time for her mother’s life to take a turn for the better.

As she came to the age of 17, she had recently come across her ability to heal others. Her dog had gotten hit by a car and out of pure luck and chance, as she held the dying pup in her arms, his injuries mended themselves together as her hands took on a faint pink glow. It was now that she definitely knew she was not normal, and that she would need to seek out help soon. She was afraid and sad. She knew not of what to do, so she kept all to herself. She trained to train her ability in private, she had given herself many cuts to try and mend, but she discovered soon that her ability would only work on others. Her parent’s were apart now, after she concealed- no, begged each of them to commit to separation. It all happened on one christmas night. The three of them came to an agreement to try and spend one last holiday together before saying goodbye to their father for good. Everything appeared to be going well, and she finally thought her life was going to change. As if she were living her childhood memories, she was awoken in the silence of what was a beautiful night, by loud screaming and banging. She quickly ran into the kitchen, linking herself to her mother, absorbing all of the hateful remarks coming from her father. She tried to yell stop, but before she knew it, a knife entered itself into her mother’s heart. How was someone meant to take that? A physical and emotional blow to the heart. She merely collapsed on the ground, the shock of the injury scaring her sickly, the whimpering of Cooper signalling the end of a night gone horrifically wrong.

Everything was still in the chilly cold morning. She ran to her mother’s corpse, dried tears stuck within the splatter of blood on her torso and face. She tried to deny this happening, but she remembered the sting of the cold metal entering her mother. She had felt that pain for her, but had not taken the blow. This was all her fault. She didn’t stop him. She was weak. She had tried to be strong and selfless, but she had failed. She clung to her mother’s body, begging her to come back. She tried healing her time and time again, only to exhaust herself out as she called 911, packed her bags, took her dog and ran. She left a note for police explaining what had occurred and why she was leaving. That she needed to create her own life, and now that she was 18, she could. She set out with Cooper for wherever life would take them, looking for others like her to take care of what was a broken china doll, cracked in every which way.

The Powers and Weaknesses

(All characters can be as powerful as they want, as long as they are balanced with proper weaknesses.)
Powers

Power 1: Valentine has the ability to heal a range of different injuries. She is able to seal wounds and reconnect broken bones with the touch of her hands, although the more severe the injury, the more time it will take. It is usually most obviously known that she is in the process of healing oneself when her hands glow a faint pink, as does the area she is healing.

Power 2: Valentine also has the ability to tap into one's mind and endure their physical and mental pain. While active , she herself will feel very bit of pain while the one receiving this buff will still receive the injury, just not feel any pain that comes with it. As for tapping into someones mental pain, it often leaves them in a blurred state, as much of what you obtain from a conversation is from the emotions you pull out of it.

Weakness(es)

Weakness 1: Valentine is forced to remain still and in physical contact with her patient in order to fully heal them. If interrupted, the injury may end up demented or wrong, so full, concentrated lengths of time are recommended when being treated by Valentine's healing.

Weakness 2: Valentine is not able to withstand immense amounts of pain, and can only hold as much as your average teenage girl. She will either collapse out of exhausting, pain or stop enduring pain for someone if she feels as though she is going overboard. Refusing to un-tap from someones mind can result in her dying due to the immense shock to her mind from the pain.
