The Legacy

Personality:

Sir William Royce is a man of honour and loyalty. Bound to uphold the law and serve his liege, he is eternally tormented by his failure of the latter. Now lost in a world he does not know, he is doing his best to adjust. His attempts to interact with others can often come off as awkward at best due to the massive cultural difference. At the very least, he has picked up on the modern day mannerisms, how exactly is unknown to him but the reason is because of him overhearing people in the museum while he slept. Although on occasion he does slip back into his older speech patterns. With that in mind, he is actually a rather kind, if stern man.

History:

Born in the year 703, young William Royce was the third son of the Royce family. An aristocratic family who held claim to a few lands on the outskirts of the Kingdom of Ermia, a kingdom forged in the Dark Ages and lost in the annuals of time. Wanting to gain the favour of the king, William's father offered his son to the knights for training and service. From the age of six he trained day in and day out, his determination and skill surprising the Knights and he quickly found himself apprenticed to Sir Roland DeFoe, head of the Knights of Castle Cenuria. For the next twenty two years he trained for the day when his sword would be called upon.

That day was a dark one in Ermia's short history. A warring kingdom had finally planned a full on invasion and King Gyre the Second send the majority of his armies to meet them, leaving the castle with a skeleton crew. William Royce was one of the few Knights assigned to defend the castle. While the armies engaged in combat miles away, a force of fifty soldiers infiltrated the castle slaughering guard and civilian alike as they made their way to the throne room. William and the remaining knights, numbering only ten in total, stood guard outside the throne room to meet the invaders. The battle lasted until sundown, when the clashing of steel finally faded and no further attempts to breach the doors were made, the King had them opened to reveal only William still standing.

So impressed was King Gyre II that he commissioned a new set of armour and sword be made for William. Upon their completion he was knighted and given an offer, to serve his line for all eternity in exchange for eternal youth. Sir William accepted, not for the lure of eternal youth, but because King Gyre II was a man worth eternal servitude to. Thus he was taken by the Archmage to partake in an ancient ritual. Unbeknownst to both parties however, this ritual was in fact an ancient curse inflicted upon only the worst of criminals. It would remove all need for food or drink and leave the person ageless. Forever forced to wander the earth in repentance for their crimes with the only salvation being the damnation of their soul through suicide, be it by their own hand or that of another. When the ritual was complete, the first indications this was less of a blessing became clear. Sir William's armour could no longer be removed, not by hand nor by the greatest blacksmith.

With his now eternal life, Sir William served the Gyre line faithfully and to the greatest extent of his ever growing abilities. However, as the centuries passed, there was one thing Sir William could not protect the Gyre's from. Themselves. As the kingdom and their wealth grew, so did their greed. Corruption festered within the castle's walls while famine and plague ravaged their lands. Soon Sir William found himself fighting not invading armies, but farmers and bakers. Those who still had the strength to stand and rebel fought with all their might in hopes of a better life. Soon even he was questioning his own vows.

Finally, the end came when Sir William was away putting down another peasant rebellion. Rebels overran the castle and slew the king and his children. Not even his bastards were spared as all were hunted down and executed, thus ending the Gyre line. Upon returning to the castle, the new king sentenced Sir William to death for his acts under the rule of King Gyre IX. When the execution attempts failed to end Sir William's life, the new king grew fearful and sealed him in the deapest vault of the royal treasury. There, ridden by guilt of his failure, Sir William fell into a deep sleep.

Sir William remained in that vault for the next thousand years, around him kingdoms rose and fell and the world continued on. It wasn't until British archaeologists unearthed the vault in 1948 was he released, but still he slept. Amazed at the quality of his armour, still in the same pristine condition it was when it was presented to him, he was transferred to a museum in London. From there, he was sold from museum curator to museum curator until he landed in his final destination. A small museum in New York City.

His slumber would have continued for perhaps many more years had a certain incident not occurred. Late at night, three burglars broke into the museum looking for a quick score. In the process of looting the place, they were discovered by a security guard whom they immediately shot dead. The killing occurred directly outside Sir William's display case. For the first time in a millennium, Sir William opened his eyes and upon witnessing this injustice, broke free from his case and slew all three burglars. Now he was awake, in a world he did not know and could not understand.

The Powers

Power 1: 'Blessed' Armour: Having been blessed by ancient magics, Sir William has entered the league of Immortals. He is no longer affected by the simple passing of time, nor does he require food or drink to sustain himself. However, this is the extent of his immortality, he can still be killed if fatal wounds are inflicted upon him. He is also not immune to diseases or poisons. In addition, his armour and sword have been bound to him and share the same 'blessing'. They will not age, but can take damage. However, any damage inflicted that is not fatal will slowly repair itself as Sir William too heals. Sadly this comes at a price, as the armour has become a second skin to him. It cannot be dismantled or removed. Forever trapping him within it's steel embrace.

Power 2: Unbound Determination: Sir William was known as a demon back in his glory days for his super human strength, unmatched sword skills and sheer tenacity on the battlefield. While this is true, none of his exceptional strengths are supernatural. Throughout his three centuries of service, his constant training has brought him into the levels of the superhumans.

Approved and moved!

Keep in mind, you haven't paid for regeneration with ABI points.

So the healing he does will take a long time/etc.

He's really tough, of course, so I doubt he'd get too beat up.
