ERIK LANCASTER
DON'T FEAR THE REAPER

Basic Biography

Real Name: Erik Vaughn Lancaster
Renegade/Hero/Villain Name: Reaper
Title:
Alignment:  Chaotic Good
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasion
Hair: Black
Eyes: Green
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 185 lbs
Blood type: A-

The Looks

Erik:
Erik has always been told he is attractive, though he sees this as a means to an end more-so than anything of substantial value. He has an angular face with softly rounded edges, complemented with high cheekbones and dimples, giving him a deceptively warm and inviting demeanor when he smiles. In public he plays up these features into a convincing mask, like an actor performing on a stage. In private his green eyes reflect more of his true personality, piercing and yet sad and haunted.

Erik keeps his body in perfect shape through continuous exercise and a healthy diet instead of relying on his powers. He takes pride in keeping himself well groomed and clean, though he has never particularly considered himself a vain person, keeping his hair well trimmed in something of a faux hawk style.

Erik's style can be described as "Very Old School". He often looks like someone that belongs in Victorian Era London, favoring dress slacks, a button down shirt and a vest for casual occasions and adding the waist coat and top hat for fancier ones. He doesn't own a single T-shirt or pair of blue jeans, preferring to wear dress slacks and a button shirt even when painting, though he often will roll up the sleeves on such occasions.

Erik's costume is the complete opposite of his normal tidy wardrobe. Erik wears an ankle length Black Highwayman coat with wide lapels that can button up to cover much of his face, tho he rarely buttons it up all the way. The sleeves of the coat have been ripped to tatters exposing Erik's bare arms, which while in his Alter Ego, Erik extends his skeleton outside of  his skin, making him look like a walking skeleton. To hide his identity, Erik's facial bones extend and contort into a mouth-less mask, the ridges where the plates meet forming a large eerie smile where a mouth should be. Erik wears a Black Hakama, the loose fitting pants of the Samurai as well as a pair of Black tabi shoes. The entire ensemble is tattered and torn in many areas, crudely patched in others, adding to the Grim Reaper look Erik hopes to use to cultivate fear in criminals.

The Legacy

Personality: Erik has always cared a little too much, in fact it could be said that that's his biggest quality, and his biggest stumbling block. His emotions have always been on his sleeve since he was little. His illnesses only exacerbated his emotions, leaving him alone and without many close friends. This in connection with his inability to vocalize what he was feeling caused his nerves to be constantly frayed with loneliness and envy.

After the disappearance and supposed death of his parents, Erik had had enough of emotions, locking them away deep inside so the pain would finally stop, but even then they were always trying to get out. The only reprieve Erik could find was through Music and the Arts, pouring his emotions into his work. This lead to his success with both his music and his artistry, but its only ever a temporary relief.

Erik has spent his life building walls around his heart, keeping everyone out to avoid the pain, to avoid caring. Over the years, even before his powers manifested, Erik began to adopt a second persona, one that would further aid him in keeping people away, a mask for the public and for those he knows, so no one would ask about what was hidden underneath.

In public, Erik is rather outgoing and seemingly gregarious, most often quick to talk to everyone and be the life of the party. He is incredibly upbeat, always ready to tell a joke or brighten someone’s day. The only part of his public identity that isn’t completely false is that he always has time for a lady in need. Whether it’s a damsel in distress or simply a girl needing a shoulder to cry on, He always has time for them. It’s the one part of himself that he can never truly detach from no matter how hard he tries.

Erik strives to model himself after the heroes he grew up reading about in old detective stories and pulp magazines, adopting their cold logical mindset and outlook on life and crime. His biggest influences include Sherlock Holmes and The Shadow, his two favorite heroes, each of whom have inspired the way he approaches crime.

ASPIRATION:
The desire to help people has been instilled in Erik for as long as he can remember, first and foremost by his parents. He seeks to better peoples lives the only ways he knows how, through Art, Music, and Crime fighting. He doesn't dream of being seen as a saint, visionary, or any other such praises from men, but merely hopes that what he does is remembered by those involved.

History:
John Lancaster had little idea what would lie ahead when he met Jessica Connelly freshman year of College. He had everything all planned out, Finish Medical School, get a residency and become a cardiologist...then make time for women. But like all good things, things didn’t go according to plan. The two became nearly inseparable friends from the beginning, which lead to all night studying, which led to all night not studying, which led to Having Erik their Junior year. The joy that accompanies childbirth was soon to fade however, as realities began to set in.

In addition to an unplanned pregnancy, Erik was born sick. Among other things he suffered from a Hereditary form of Hemochromatosis, an abnormal amount of iron in his body, brittle bone disease, and a weakened immune system. Erik’s health put a strain on the two Med student’s relationship to the point of breaking. John’s family was old money and old school values, and as he wasn’t married to Jessica, they cut him off forcing him to abandon school and find work to care for Jessica and their baby boy. John soon found work nursing, working as much as possible to support Jessica and Erik’s needs. Despite the strain on their relationship, John and Jessica managed to pull through and even find happiness, despite the challenges their new life produced.

Jessica had to drop out of Med school as well to tend to Erik’s full time healthcare needs, which included monthly check ups, clean rooms, and lots of antibiotics as well as nearly constant supervision to avoid breaking bones. Little did they know then that these symptoms were pointing towards his latent powers.

After a particularly bad spill, Erik spent months in casts to recover from several broken bones in his arms and legs. it was during this down time that Erik learned he had a natural affinity for Art and music, and he began to take an interest in the arts.  Around this time the economy took a downward turn again, leaving John without work or insurance and a lot of medical bills. After a few months of unemployment, John turned toward his family for help, but they wouldn’t even see him, and so Jessica asked her family for help, against their better judgement.

The Connelly family is well known in Chicago as a prominent family within the Irish Mob. They generously helped with The Lancaster family’s financial difficulty in exchange for their medical training. They even paid for John to go back to school and took care of all of Erik’s medical needs. Despite some reservations, John acquiesced to the arrangement, simply wanting to take care of his family.

For the next 10 years John Lancaster became the personal physician to the Mob and things got better for the Lancasters. They had money, happiness, and the good life. Even Eriks health began to improve little by little until one day he woke up blind, a side effect of his blood disorder. Erik went through his teen years without the use of his sight. It was during these years that Erik first began to realize he was different. It started slowly, hearing soft noises far away, heightened smells. But slowly he learned that if he focused he could control his senses, heightening them at will. This progressed to learning to control the rest of his body, accelerating his healing and growth processes.

But life had one more tragedy in store for Erik. He came home from his last day of school, overjoyed because he had finally learned how to repair his eyesight and he wanted to surprise his parents...but they weren’t there. They didn’t come that night, or any night after that. They became a missing persons cold case file in some warehouse, and two caskets in the cemetery. Deep down Erik suspected the Connollys were to blame. And while he smiled and thanked them for coming to his parents funeral, he knew they would avoid justice.

It was then that he knew why fate had given him powers. He knew there were plenty of people like him out there that would never receive justice. His parents had told him to always help people in need, a philosophy which had made them become medical students in the first place. Erik now had a purpose in life and the power to accomplish it. Over the next few years, Erik learned to hone his abilities to make him a more effective Hero.

The Powers and Weaknesses

Powers

Power 1:
Body Manipulation: Erik's powers give him total control over his entire body, from generating new cells, to using his existing ones however he wills. He can also rewrite his cellular code as needed
Power 2:
Adaptive Muscle Memory: Combining control over muscle with control over memory, Erik can learn new things quickly as long as he can see them and do them physically.
Power 3:
Enhanced Strength, Speed, Durability: Erik can access more of his muscle fibers then normal humans, giving him increased strength, speed and reflexes. He also uses his abnormally high Iron levels to reinforce his muscles and skin, increasing his durability.
Power 4:
Enhanced Senses: Erik's control over his body allows him to enhance all of his five senses, and gives him night vision. He prefers to live and fight without the use of his eyes, focusing on using his other senses, using sight only when needed.
Power 5:
Accelerated Healing: Erik can control where his immune system goes, and how quickly it responds to damage.
Power 6:
Bone Shaping: Erik grows bone at an extremely accelerated rate, shaping it as it grows into anything his mind can conceive from a lock-pick to a katana. His high iron levels reinforce his bones, making them as strong as steel, providing enhanced durability and support for his enhanced muscles.

Weakness(es)

Weakness 1:
Body Manipulation: Using his abilities takes a tremendous toll on his body, requiring him to replenish his body's stores of energy. In other words he has to consume as much food as two or three body builders within a few hours of using his powers. If he doesn't he is unable to use his abilities in any way and after five hours without food his body begins to become lethargic. After eight hours, his body will slip into a coma. Regular training is required to keep his body in good shape, and extend the range of his Energy output ratio.
Weakness 2:
Adaptive Muscle Memory: This ability improves learning, but it is not instantaneous. Erik has to be able to see what he wants to do, i.e. a kenjitsu strike, and then repeatedly make the same move at least a half dozen times. Only then is it locked in his muscles and brain and he can repeat it flawlessly and combine it with other moves. Despite the limitations, Erik can learn complex moves in a fraction of the time it takes normal humans.
Weakness 3:
Enhanced Strength, Speed and Durability: Erik's powers grant him peak human strength and speed, pushing the boundaries of human and super human. At most his body is currently in peak human condition. At present he can access up to 75% of his muscle fibers at any given time and can bench press roughly 750 pounds. His enhanced muscles also allow him to run up to 40 mph in quick bursts or about 30 mph for up to thirty minutes. His reflexes are heightened to about 3/10th of a second. His increased durability only stops knives with a blade smaller then 3 inches, and bullets 9 millimeter or smaller. His bones and skin are reinforced with iron to the point of becoming as hard as steel, his bones much more-so then his skin, tho with concentration he can force the iron into his epidermis, allowing him to withstand greater impacts, either from falling or explosives.
Weakness 4:
Enhanced Senses Erik can only heighten one sense fully at a time with the exception of night vision, which he can use in conjunction with his other five. If he wants to say heighten his hearing, for example, he temporarily loses his other senses. His upper limits are: Hearing a whisper at 50 feet, Seeing a fly's wings at 60 feet, and differentiating between 20 different scents. All senses scale with each other, meaning if he only enhances one slightly, the others are only slightly impaired. (He rarely find reason to heighten taste and touch and so hasn't experimented with how far he can push them.)
Weakness 5:
Accelerated Healing: By far one of his most advanced and well trained abilities, Erik's healing has achieved remarkable heights. He can heal a small cut and damage from himself in a few seconds, Knife wounds in one to five minutes, Bullet wounds in three to eight minutes given good circumstances. But even this ability has its limits. His body has been honed to wear it will automatically heal small wounds and wounds self inflicted quickly and without much conscious thought. But more severe wounds require Erik's concentration. Small knife wounds and small caliber bullets (once removed) heal virtually automatically, but his body cant heal more than one or two wounds at a time. anything more, such as larger knives, higher caliber bullets or an excessive amount of bullets, and Erik must concentrate on healing himself. The more damage he take, the more he has to concentrate, meaning he cant walk into a hail of gunfire and hope to do anything. Also he can block out pain, but if he takes too much damage, his body will shut down and lapse into a coma to try and protect himself. 10 wounds and Erik needs to concentrate to heal. 25 wounds and he goes into a coma.
Weakness 6:
Bone Shaping: Erik greatest offensive ability. He can create any object his mind conceives up to the size of a large sword. He often uses this ability for defense, extending his skeletal structure outward like Bone armor. Mostly this is to create an terrifying effect for criminals, but in some cases it has been known to deflect a knife or stray bullet. Once any bone structure leaves his body it cannot be returned and acute osteonecrosis begins to set in after about 10 minutes, dissolving the the bone into dust, unless Erik wills it earlier. Like all his other powers, this one requires a lot of energy, plus a lot of calcium, requiring Erik to drink at least a gallon of milk after using his bone abilities. After using his Powers extensively he has a bout an hour to replenish his calcium before his body begins to hoard the calcium from his bones, making them extremely brittle. After two hours his bones are brittle enough to break with ease.
