The Legacy

Personality: While in his civilian attire, "Slade Hellsing" prefers to keep a low profile and keep to himself. As an unstable individual with uncanny powers, he finds it best this way. He is paranoid of the world around him, though you wouldn't know it if you did manage to speak to him. However, once he dons the Nightslaughter mask he tends to open up a bit. He will make witty comments during battle or give monologues before dishing out pain. He has a dark sense of humor at times and is intrigued by the macabre. Strange and eccentric, yet very smart, a great example of the genius borderlining a madman. Deep down he is a brooding creature who feeds on the suffering of humanity. Some may think he's a bit cold, but staying out of everyone's way is best for everyone in his mind.

History: The man who would be come to known as Nightslaughter lost his true identity long ago. Growing up as a child in a hostile environment full of hatred, deceit, abuse, and violence; he became a product of the unlucky cards fate had dealt him. He had already experienced a lifetime of anguish by his teen years and was left psychological traumatized because of this. To escape the torment of his home life, he sought refuge in the streets, befriending outcasts of all shapes and sizes. Before long he would be taken under the wing of a small-time gang and would learn the ropes of hustle and crime.

However, fate would not allow his inner tranquility to prosper. Slowly over time, one comrade after another would succumb to death’s embrace. Whether it was from drug overdoses or messing with the wrong people, the gang’s numbers would dwindle rapidly. After a long-trusted ally amongst The Brotherhood became an informant for the police to avoid prosecution, our troubled youth would leave the streets in an attempt to prove he’s not just another statistic. He would find himself in solitude once again.

Time would pass and things were finally shaping up for him in life, but after the devastating betrayal of his significant other, his mind snapped. The trauma of his past mixed with the anxiety of the present drove him to the edge. He was soon consumed by a state of delusional mania and began desperately searching for esoteric knowledge from religions and secret societies that could save him from this living hell. But no god, priest, or creed could save his fragile mind from self-destruction. In a twist of irony, pure luck, coincidence, and perhaps just destiny; he would one day stumble across a box of possessions left by his ex. At first nothing seemed out of the ordinary about this tucked away container, but one item within it stuck out like a sore thumb: an ancient leather bound book that dealt with the dark arts. It was as if the key he had been searching for had been under his nose all along.

His prayers to the gods had fallen upon deaf ears, so now he was willing to make a deal with the devil himself. Using the magickal rituals found within the pages of the grimoire, he would create a summoning circle to conjure forth a powerful entity from the depths of the underworld to do his bidding. He was willing to exchange his soul for infinite knowledge regarding the universe around him, to find perfect love, and for all things he deeply desired to come true. He begged and pleaded for someone, something, anything to hear his cries and pleas for help. Unbeknownst to him, the devil had listened.

Immediately after he made a verbal contract with the prince of hell, his phone rang. It was his ex, wanting to check in on him seemingly out of nowhere. Although the pact was not clear at first, he would indeed begin seeing changes in his life. Rekindling his relationship, finding success with personal goals, and gaining unparalleled wisdom through scholarly studies; it seemed his path to happiness was finally carved. But he wasn’t careful what he wished for, and to make matters worse, his personal genie was a master of deceit.

His relationship would end with betrayal again, and each one that followed suit would end the same way. His success with accomplishing dreams would crash as soon as they arrived. And the understanding of the chaos in the cosmos was so perplexing that it led to more questions than answers. The cards fate had dealt him were now in the devil’s hands. At first it wasn’t even apparent that the devil had been manipulating his life, it just seemed like another series of unfortunate events that our protagonist had grown used to. But visions, nightmares, and voices began to haunt him during his slumber. Sporadically for years, they would grow worse and worse each time they came to him. Sometimes he questioned if he was even asleep at all.

At the age of 20, he had found himself working as a waiter for a mob-ran restaurant. The clientele was mostly gangsters and crooked cops, and he himself was an outsider that the mob had entrusted to work there. But irregularities within his pay soon came to his attention, and after confronting the Don, he was fired and ex-communicated from the mob. He knew from that day on he’d live in paranoia, wondering when they were coming to silence him of their secrets.

“KiLL your FaMiLY”
“KiLL YouRseLF”
“They’re WORTHLESS maggots”
“YOU’RE a worthless MAGGOT”

The voices called to him from the astral planes in his sleep, piercing his thoughts as if they were his conscious. They pulled him deeper into the unknown, until he snapped back into his body, in his room, in his bed. But he couldn’t move. An oversized imp with charred flesh lay perched on his chest, paralyzing him in a pool of cold sweat, whispering evils into his mind. From the corner of the room, a figure made of shadow watched silently, a figure he was all too familiar with. Twice during his childhood this figure had come to him. It ominously watched him back then, breathing down his neck, making his presence felt without moving an inch or saying a word. But everyone he told during these incidents shrugged it off as his imagination. And now the truth was out: it was real. But why has this specter followed him his entire life? Was he always destined for damnation?

The burnt demon edged him to seek revenge on those who’ve wronged him, but at the same time tempted him to take his own life. They did not care which path he chose, for the devil was only after more minions to join him in hell. With anger in his heart, he agreed to seek revenge on his enemies. Pleased with his answer, they granted him demonic powers fueled by the lake of fire itself. Donning a homemade disguise, he charged his former workplace to find vengeance in the form of blood. A massacre would ensue and escalate quickly, as the mob and the corrupt officials tried their best to kill this masked assassin. But his new demonic “gifts” consumed the humanity in his soul the more he used them, sending him into a blinding uncontrollable rage. Soon the entire establishment was up in flames.

When he came to, he realized the carnage he had caused and the innocent lives lost during the blaze. He was now an agent of death. The identity he once had  was rendered useless. The devil’s powers weren't going away any time soon, and that meant his hunger for vengeance wasn't going to die. Can he learn to control these powers for the remainder of time he has left on earth? Or will he forever be a slave to the darkness? Only one thing is for certain: when his ghastly presence shows itself under the deathly pale moon, there is sure to be a… NIGHTSLAUGHTER.

The Powers and Weaknesses

Powers

Power 1: Spellbound Pistols
Nightslaughter can conjure dual wield pistols constructed from pure magickal energy. They can fire an unlimited amount of flaming ebony colored bullets. The guns themselves are virtually weightless though they can cause impact in close quarters fighting. This is Nightslaughter’s power of choice, as it only consumes a small portion of his humanity to use.

Power 2: Hellforged Armor
Nightslaughter’s costume can transform into a set of armor forged in the depths of hell. The armor provides much more resistance against enemy attacks as opposed to his regular attire, but in order to activate it he must allow himself to be Consumed by Evil*.

Power 3: Chains of Damnation
Nightslaughter sold his soul to the devil, forever chaining him to a life of damnation. The Chains of Damnation are the physical representation of this. He can unleash the never-ending chains from within any part of his body, ripping his flesh apart in the process. However, thanks to his demonic powers the wounds heal instantly at the low cost of losing a small portion of his humanity. The chains can be set ablaze to attack enemies with or used similarly to a grappling hook for travel.

Power 4: Refuge of Darkness
As a creature of the night, Nightslaughter can find a great ally within the darkness. He can absorb shadows into wounds to regenerate any damage done to him for a small portion of his humanity.

Power 5: Shadow Master
For a bigger portion of his humanity, he may summon shadow minions of various shapes and sizes to attack for him. Though these creatures are relatively weak by themselves, they can be a challenge in numbers.

Power 6: Burning Soul
Nightslaughter has been blessed with the demonic gift of mastering the element of fire. For a small portion of his humanity his body can generate smoke to disorient the target, breathe smoke as if it were oxygen, and manipulate fire. For a bigger portion of his humanity, he can create flames from thin air and be resistant to any fire-related damage (the longer he is on fire, the more humanity consumed).

Weakness(es)

Weakness 1: Consumed by Evil
All of Nightslaughter’s demonic powers absorb a portion of his humanity to use. If he uses all of his soul magick to use abilities, he will gain access to Hellforged Armor*. However, doing so makes Nightslaughter go into a frenzy that is possessed solely by carnage and bloodshed, losing all morality and control in the process. Nightslaughter typically blacks out during this primal state and loses most of memories of the occurrence, except for the faces of the victims he killed. Once the transformation is over, he typically finds himself confused, momentarily weakened, and haunted by the body count he caused.

Weakness 2: Drought of the Night
As a creature of the night, Nightslaughter’s abilities are at their strongest in the night. During the day, Nightslaughter’s control over shadows is severely impacted. Regeneration powers are weaker and he is unable to summon shadow minions. Due to his lesser shadow mastery and general weakness in the sunlight, Nightslaughter is typically a nocturnal being.

Weakness 3: Vulnerable to Virtue
The powers which give Nightslaughter strength are created from the darkest schools of magick. Therefore, the more pure, innocent, and virtuous his opponent is; the more damage they can deal to Nightslaughter. This weakness is mostly affected by the number of people that person has killed, sexual abstinence, greed, ego, and honesty.

Weakness 4: Devil’s Pact
Nightslaughter made a pact with the lord of the abyss in return for his soul. The pact was one of deceit though, as it wasn’t exactly what Nightslaughter had in mind. Nightslaughter wished for his deepest desires to become reality, and while they do, what happens after they come to fruition is up to the devil to decide. And usually that means it’s not in the favor of the Agent of Death.

Weakness 5: Demon’s Will
While under extreme emotional distress, the already unstable Nightslaughter can become easily targeted by wandering demonic entities. Their powers of mind control can will Nighslaughter to harm himself or others, tempt him to commit crimes, or even plant suicidal thoughts or actions into his brain. They can also latch themselves onto him and drain his humanity, potentially causing him to be Consumed by Evil.

Weakness 6: Divine Magick
Holy artifacts, runes, and chants may temporarily disable some of Nightslaughter’s powers depending on how strong they are. The more holy the magick power, the more repercussions his demonic powers will have.

Items/Minions

Minion Powers

Minion Power 1: Shadow Bats
A swarm of bat-like entities arise from the shadows, disorienting and confusing targets while attacking them. Usually used as a distraction.

Minion Power 2: Shadow Reachers
Hands and arms constructed from shadows reach out of the darkness to hold targets in place, allowing for Nightslaughter to escape or control the situation. Although not meant for attacking, they will occasionally swipe and claw at their victim.

Minion Power 3: Shadow Figure
Summons a three dimensional humanoid shadow from the darkness to attack enemies and strike fear into their hearts. Shadow figures primarily attack by wrapping their victims up in a living shadow and suffocating them.

Minion Weaknesses

Minion Weakness 1: Sonar Jam
Extremely high pitches noises are known to scatter and confuse the shadow bats, because much like regular bats, they use echolocation in order to navigate.

Minion Weakness 2: Blinding Light
Reachers are actually weaker versions of Shadow Figures, unable to fully manifest into the world due to an extreme sensitivity to light. Extremely bright lights will cause any potential Reachers to slither back into the nether of which they came.

Minion Weakness 3: Divine Magick
Much like Nightslaughter, all shadow creatures are weak to holy artifacts, runes, and chants. But they will confront these powers head on or sacrifice themselves in order to protect the Agent of Death.
