In the matter of swords

Post by Ani on November 8th 2013, 1:16 am

She was back. Her black leather boots clicking across the stone floor and her silver white hair rippling down her shoulders, Katrina looked bored as she wandered down the hall past several other Titans. Their eyes followed her, watching as the enigma passed. Most of the Titans had no idea who or what she was, except for Sean… He had found her in the forest when she had first woken up from a two thousand year slumber. From that a rather rocky alliance had been struck. It had recently come to Katrina’s knowledge that Sean had become rather shorthanded, pardon the terrible pun. The Demon Blade had come to see the damage for herself. Her broadswords were hung across her back and her grey eyes fixed ahead of her. One of the large cats the titans kept around trailed after her, sniffing the hem of her black dress.

Within several moments, Katrina knocked on Sean’s door before receiving the all clear and entering the room. Her eyes skated over the entire room briefly before landing on the spot with the missing appendage.
“So,” Katrina finally said, “The rumors are true then.”

She leaned up against the door, her white head leaning against the wood and her grey eyes fixed on Sean.
“What happened?”

Re: In the matter of swords

Post by Arcana on November 8th 2013, 2:15 am

A single finger ran over the perplexing marking, one that had been with him ever since that strange encounter with the even stranger Ethereal being. Occasionally it would burn painfully, but other than that nothing came of it. The marking had made itself blend in with his usual patterns, twisting and turning about the pale flesh but something about it seemed to stand out only to Sean; as if mocking him more than anything else. After a few more seconds of examining the strange marking, Sean pulled a white t-shirt over his bare torso, managing to do so with only one hand, learning slowly to adapt to his rather annoying disability.

He was dressed in simple khaki colored shorts, and white socks that stopped mid ankle, all things that he chose not to change from his life as a human. Sean lay prone in his bed, only arm curled around one of the pillows wrapped in a dark red case, thinking over many things, but mostly about what he could do now. Even with what had happened, many of the councilors had expected that he go on with their plans, leading everything while they began the corruption. They had already dominated dozens of dimensions, but the one that he was born from seemed to hold the most interest with them, one that held beings that held such a resemblance to their most powerful.

That was when he was hit by it again; a sudden pang in the stump and then the phantom tingling that caused him to stir. Ghost fingers grasping for something, perhaps the bedding or anything physical; yet he knew that there was nothing grasping. A knock came at his door, and Sean found himself jolting up, a light yawn issuing from his mouth. ”Yeah…come in.” He said feeling slightly tired, but the Nether within the air made him feel more powerful than usual, as if he were capable once again. The person to step through was Katrina, a woman that he had found within a forest a while ago, a special woman to be sure. It was rare that one came across a human capable of becoming a weapon, though she had went beyond humanity long ago it seemed.

There was a moment of silence, and then she was the one to break it, and boy was it rather awkward when she did. It seemed that the loss of his arm was a curiosity even for the living weapon, something that Sean found himself bristling slightly at the mention of. Tentative fingers brushed across the stump that slightly poked out from the white sleeve, feeling the still smooth flesh that was for the moment not covered by the black markings. ’Yeah, you can say that they are.” He said with a weak smirk before it faded away into a hard line as he looked over the damage that had healed a good week or two ago. It was not unexpected that she wanted to know what had happened to him, but then again could he hope to really tell her what had happened to him?

”That’s….a hard question to answer really. I lost it, someone cut it off.” He sighed, running fingers along the bridge of his nose, feeling a light spell of dizziness.

“Totally a hard thing to explain,” Katrina agreed in a slightly amused fashion. She entered the room her boots clicking across the floor. Sean’s bed dipped a little and he looked pretty pathetic, snuggled up to his pillows with only a stump for an arm. Katrina and Sean were exactly the same height, a whopping size of five feet and three inches. Their eye coloring was pretty similar as well, silver but Katrina’s seemed to have a hint of bluish metal.

“How long have you been like this? In your pity party state I mean?” Katrina cocked her head to the side before gingerly sitting on the edge. Beds in the nether world were very much to Katrina’s liking, mainly because hers was on the floor. It was obvious that Sean was not feeling well and she sighed, crossing her arms.

Her skin was cool to the touch, like metal. In a weird way she was but Katrina didn’t mind to much that she was freezing constantly.

Sean detected a small amount of amusement within her voice, but then again it didn’t really bother him. True it was not hard to say who had done it, for Sean admitting it was perhaps harder than one could imagine. The raven haired male shifted slightly; feel of the cotton stuff pillow still fresh within his fingers as they danced across the pillow surface. The female was around the same height as him, and they both had the strange eyes, silver like steel, but it seemed to fit the female more than him.

He couldn’t help but smirk though, even if something within him would have rather sulked about more. She chose to sit on the edge of his bed, a gesture that within itself did not bother him, Sean moving into a cross legged sitting position. ”Pity party?” He raised a brow, sounding slightly amused by that statement. It hadn’t really hit him until now, but that really did seem to fit how he was acting.

”Well I don’t know what you mean by pity party but it’s been nearly two weeks since this happened.” With a small motion his stump twitched, waving slightly as he tried to draw attention to it.

Katrina rolled her eyes as she watched Sean digest the term pity party, it was like it was a foreign language to the titan causing a look of mild confusion.

“Two weeks, so your-“ Katrina cast around for a term to describe the limb without being too offensive . “Injury has healed up?”
Her eyes went to the spot again, confirming that indeed his stumpy was all healed.

“This is what I mean by pitty party,” Katrina demonstrated, flopping dramatically onto Sean’s bed with the back of her hand pressed to her forehead. “Woe is me! For I poor Sean have lost a limb! There is no way I shall ever recover my former glory!”

Katrina pushed herself up before standing and grabbing Sean’s ankle, attempting to drag him out of his bed. “Come on, no more moping or you’re going to turn into a mop.”

Intervention was exactly was Sean was going to get if he played Titan jello slug. Katrina liked swords so beating Sean up with one seemed like a good fit. It would help Sean get stronger as well if he was willing to try at least. “Come on, grab your sword of choice and lets go.”
She would continue to pester him until she complied to her wishes.

”Yeah its healed up.” To be honest it had healed up a while ago, the day that the incident had happened, but the rest did not grow back. Something about the look that Ouroboros wore on his face stuck with Sean, and still caused something in the pit of his stomach to grow cold. How the male continued to try and figure out what had caused his body to reject the Ethereal energy, and at least it proved to be one that he thought was dead long ago.

For a second his gaze went from the stump to Katrina and back to aforementioned stump. He chewed lightly on his lower lip, mind dipping back into murky thoughts once again. That was when the female decided to demonstrate what she meant by pity party, which meant plopping across the bed and doing a rather amusing impression of him. While it usually would have riled him up in some way, Sean didn’t really find himself offended by it, simply because it was true.

She attempted to drag him out of the bed, and while he would have resisted, the superior strength made that nearly impossible. So he found himself being dragged from the soft embrace of the bed and falling butt first on the floor, grumbling under his breath. ”Not moping.” Sean muttered pulling from his sitting position, rubbing his rear rather sorely. She said something about him grabbing his favorite sword, and following after her, which meant that…she intended on sparring with him?

Sean looked at her puzzled for a moment, raven brow raising before lowering. ’Fine.” he huffed before simply giving into her demands and taking his favored katana from above a nightstand by his bed. With that slung over his shoulder, he looked back at the silver haired female. ”Lead the way.” He said with a gesture, sure that she knew what she was doing.

“Totally moping,” Katrina stated, her mouth twitching in amusement. Then seeing that Sean was not going to take the opportunity to curl back up with his millions of pillows she walked out into the hall, waiting for the Titan.

When the Duo passed other titans in the hallway or human servants their eyebrows shot up. Apparently seeing Sean being bossed around by a lesser human was quite unusual. If Sean was moving at a less than satisfying speed Katrina would poke him in the ribs or say some jabbing comment like, ‘my mother moves faster than you do. Rest her soul.’

Finally they reached the gym’s sparring arena, it was pretty simple. Not many decorations or people. It had the same coloring as the rest of the place. There was a rack of swords, Katrina picked out a simple looking weapon but it was light and perfect for her. Twirling the sword in her fingers she waited for Sean.

“En Guard!” She announced before slipping into a basic spar. It wasn’t too hard and Katrina was going slowly so Sean had time to maneuver around properly as his left hand wasn’t dominant. Sometimes she stopped and helped him correct his hold or his stance.

“Come on Sean,” She would encourage gently like she was helping a small child to walk or try to persuade them to do something for her. This was the little bit of Human emotion that Katrina had left. Generally she was cool and rather emotionless unless the being had known her for some time. Even though it was an easy practice soon Katrina felt rather hot and uncomfortable.

“Don’t you guys have-“ Katrina’s nose scrunched up as she tried to remember the term for the cold air that spewed out of vents in the mortal world. “Air conditioners? Is that the right word?” She asked this during the break when she was drinking her water bottle.

Re: In the matter of swords

Post by Arcana on November 10th 2013, 5:38 pm

So it seemed that he would indeed be sparring with the living sword, Sean rather unsure of his skills as they stood. He dawdled only a few steps behind the female; however that did not seem to be up to her unknown standards. Occasionally she would turn around, prodding him in the ribs or making quips about how her mother moved faster than him. Either her mother was some kind of speed demon, or he was over thinking things too much.

As they walked past a few of the servants, some of them would look upon the sight of the strange woman bossing around Sean with a certain curiosity. His fellow Titan’s however did not look upon it with as much indifference though, internally criticizing their king for allowing such a thing. He had to ignore it however, considering that letting it linger within his mind anymore would only gain him a massive headache.

It was within a matter of moments that they reached the sparring area, decorated simply with many shades of red and some black. A slight nightmare of the fashion conscious, but it did serve its purpose. Katrina pulled a sword from a rack, choosing one that she found most appealing, while Sean was to use his own personal katana, though it was nowhere as powerful with his Nether not coursing through it.

Perhaps sensing the expectation from the woman, Sean slid the katana from the sheath held precariously on his back, holding it betwixt the fingers on his left hand. It felt awkward to hold the blade in a hand that rarely ever truly wielded a blade, except perhaps for when he chose to use two hands. Still, while he was stuck with such a handicap, Sean would learn to use the blade even with his weaker hand. He was a Titan, no, he was the king of the Titans and he should have not allowed such an injury to impede him.

So they fall into a simple spar, Sean attempting to keep up with his skilled opponent. Not only was she a few steps faster than him at the moment, but her skill seemed to outstrip his. Intermediately within the sparring session, she would even stop and correct his stance, though even with that Sean would show her that he was not some cripple; even if he was mostly trying to show himself that.

By the time that the break had come, Sean had already managed to gather him a few bruises from the training, and he was beginning to sweat slightly. Small beads of clear moisture fell down from his forehead, as he took advantage of this short break, downing a small bottle of water.

’I don’t know really, this place doesn’t exactly look like it would have anything like that. I haven’t even seen a fan on my walks through the castle.” Hell, he hadn’t even seen any electrical outlets around here. His shirt was beginning to become slightly darkened by sweat, growing semi-transparent in some areas. ’I should suggest they install some kind of ventilation system though.” He noted wiping away perspiration from his forehead.

Katrina snorted, looking up at the ceiling.
“Maybe a freezer or two for ice cubes and ice-cream?” She mused, finishing her water bottle and picking up the sword again. “I think I know why your having some issues, your right arm was your dominant arm. So If you work on transferring the dominance from the arm that you lost to your left arm, your fighting skills should come back. Also, I think you need to get a new katana… or just get this one refurbished so you can wield it comfortably with one hand.”

Katrina sat on the edge of a chair, wiping her forehead with the back of her hand. “Just a suggestion.”

She offered him a tiny smile before picking up the sword again, her brow tightening and the cold weight of the old key on her chain against her neck; A memory from another life… a different past. Katrina moved to the center of the ring, waiting for Sean.
“Let’s go back to basics shall we?”

”Freezer might be a little too advanced for these guys.” Sean said with a rather amused grin, letting the katana within his hand roll around his palm, trying to get used to the weight. He had already taken into account the fact that he had lost his dominant arm, and that it affected his self confidence, but then again that should not have affected him so much.

It was also not his katana, which was forged from material more than capable of taking damage, considering that it was made from the most durable material found within The Abyss. While he could have it forged into something else, Sean was more than comfortable with the weapon in hand, and it was the type of blade the male was most skilled in using, however having it changed to work with his one handed circumstances would be very helpful.

Following Katrina’s lead, Sean stood to his feet and experimentally twirled the blade within his hand. It still felt ruefully clumsy but at the same time he felt like it would not take too long now for him to master its use, or at least get accustomed to using it one handed. Sean took a deep breath, feeling the radiant nether within the air run its course through his body, strengthening him even more, eyes taking on a slight glow. He could do this, just remember his training and everything should go well.

With a swift movement, and a flick of his wrist, Sean started the spar once again.

Laughter pealed from Katrina, good honest laughter. “Then start with ice cream and work your way up.”

The Demon blade watched as Sean studied his Katana, before he looked back up at her, eyes glowing faintly. Katrina smiled, “There we go.”

The Sean attacked, starting the deadly dance once more. Sparks flew as Katrina matched every blow easily, but she kept up the encouragement, not flinching if blades came close to her face. By the time the sparring session was over, she was tired and vaguely hungry. Not that she would eat that much anyhow. Both sporting a fare share of battery but Katrina looking faintly pleased with herself.

“Feeling better?” She asked Mr. Moody pants. A white eyebrow arched and her eyes fixed on him.
