Dusting Off the Old Hero Boots. Empty Dusting Off the Old Hero Boots.

Post by Madhouse on June 17th 2013, 4:08 pm

In a relatively quiet street in the city of Los Angeles, on the third floor of a five story apartment building James Thurman let out a ground-shaking yawn. Throwing his arms out and sitting up, he took a moment to rub his eyes with the sides of his forefingers. "Well James" he said to himself, leaping out of bed. "Get ready for another day in..." he trailed off as the boy looked out of the window. "Sunny Los Angeles." He sighed, it had turned out that the on that particular day the city of angels wasn't so sunny after all. Although clouds dotted the skies, this was mainly because it was the middle of the night. Almost instantly, he let out a groan. He'd overslept again, it seemed. Quite frankly, he wasn't too surprised, it was becoming a regular occurrence. His old schoolmasters would certainly be ashamed, but they weren't present, something he never tired of reminding himself. As trudged over to the kitchen and ate breakfast as slowly as one can when they travel at a near-supersonic speed he decided that he would have to do something.

He glanced to his running gear, along with his grey hoodie "I guess it's that time again." He took a moment to stretch, before trotting over to his wardrobe, and throwing on his signature attire. Ever since he'd moved to Los Angeles a few months earlier, he'd taken up crime fighting as a hobby. He had never been particularly  diligent about it, but it proved to be an interesting project. Some would be hesitant to take up such a task, but not James. He had never been under any particular threat, and enjoyed savoring the look on a criminal's face once he had foiled them. He had never taken on any large scale operations, mostly just petty things. Nevertheless, it felt quite satisfying knowing he was helping the local community. Or rather, stopping them on account of the fact that from his point of view the entire neighborhood were a bunch of thugs.

James added his hoodie to his outfit this time, pulling the hood it over his head, collecting his keys and calmly strolling out of the door. Despite the fact the boy was practically bristling with confidence, he was no fool. He ascended to the rooftops, and not another sole was in sight. He grinned, and set off across the rooves until he'd reached the end of his street. From there, he descended the fire escape of the apartment buildings and took a look around. James was rather surprised by how calm the streets were, something uncharacteristic of them. The speedster shrugged, and set off on patrol. It took a while, but eventually he caught ear of a shrill alarm, taking a turn and bolting through and alleyway, he made for the scene. Sure enough, he arrived on the other end of the street, just as a considerably large, bulky man dressed entirely in black ran out of a jeweler's.

James dedicated a second to rolling his eyes. Seriously? What is this, a superhero comic? He wondered. A second later he had begun to accelerate and promptly smashed the poor fellow in the face at high speeds, most likely breaking something or another. James straightened himself, dusting himself off and taking a moment to look round under the cover of his hood. Great, that alarm had woken up the whole street, and every single one of them were staring out of their windows. Well, I he had to be noticed sometime or another.

Dusting Off the Old Hero Boots. Empty Re: Dusting Off the Old Hero Boots.

Post by Augsp on June 18th 2013, 5:57 am

OOC:Sorry about being ignorant of the post ^^;

Lyra was bored. The sixteen-year old teenager finally had a day off, and she was lsisurely walking down the street with her arms crossed. She debated on whether to go do some hero stuff or to stay like a normal teenager-that is, if any teenager could be normal after killing her sibing accidentally and fleeing across a state or two. Of course, rumors said a witness had been found and her case was clear. No way shed be going back anyway. Besides, if she did, Stella was bound to kill her somehow. It was time for her to find a new life.
Deciding that just mindlessly walking would be best, Lyra opened her apartment door and rushed out.
It was fun to have a mindless life again. The past few years had gone in a hurry. But now she had a decent life. A life where she had a stable way of income and education. Even as a dropout, Lyra had more knowledge than most of the other girls her age. Maybe a the reading at the whole working at newspaper stand had helped.

Walking down the lane, she smiled to herself. But then she heard alarms ringing. A burglar? In a time like this? Wow. Some fool that guy was. Sighing, she made her way over to the place as fast as she could, just in time to catch somebody crash into the shop in question to stop the burglar. Would.he be able to fend off alone? The burglar looked a little burly. Well, time for a little help. She scanned the surroundings with a.carefull eye. There! Just the plant she'd need. Of course it was a little thin....but usuable anyhow.
Seeing the burglar try to get up she forced the plant to grow and trip him up.

OOC: It's fine, and I apologise for the short post. I'm in a rush ^^

James glanced back down as he heard the criminal hit the deck with an "oomph!", he hadn't noticed him getting back up, being far too distracted with the matter of the watchers. Self-consciously pulling his hood down further, he took a look at the man's legs, noticing they had been tied down by what appeared to be some sort of plant. James immediately scanned his surroundings once more, looking for anyone suspect. Right on time, he spotted a girl who wasn't present earlier. James had encountered another one with powers before, so he wasn't exactly as surprised as the first time. However he'd learnt that at least some of them were volatile, so he made no move towards her, instead attaching his most charming, friendly tone and asking: "I take it you I have the pleasure of thanking you for my assistance?" He allowed his hood to slip back further, meaning she could at least see some of his face.

Well, now he had noticed her. She saw the boy look around for the one who had done the plant piwers. She had learnt that using her powers publicly at a site like this was best if she did it in a semi-hidden way. Their eyes locked together while he was looking for a moment and she smiled slightly. He had found her.
Hopefully he'd know what to do next. And fast as well. The vines were not going to stay longer. It was still too underdeveloped to be a full adult plant. Seeing his hood come back a little further she could see that he was voluntarily trying to either get himself in huge trouble from the metahuman hunting these days, or thank her. Anyhow it was dangerous. She grimaced slightly and let the vines shoot out more and restrain one of the burglar's hands.

James reversed his hood back into it's normal position soon enough, the girl didn't reply to him, but that was just fine. She was clearly trying to help, which he appreciated. He wasn't too worried, having figured out what he was going to do in a moment. As much as he felt like showing off, a gentleman did not practice that type of behavior, and so he simply knelt down, removed the vines in an instant and picked up the thug. With that, he stood him up, and promptly headbutted him. Thanks to his incredible durability James wasn't injured whatsoever, the criminal, however had been rather stunned and proceeded to take a moment to find himself. A moment, however can last an eternity in the hands of a speedster. Before he knew it, the thug had been punched between the eyes, kicked in the stomach and roundhouse kicked in the head shortly afterwards, all at a speed of 50 miles per hour.

Quite obviously, that was enough to finish the poor guy off. He fell to the floor in a rather dramatic fashion, clutching his head. James cringed slightly "I probably should have gone a bit easier on him." with that, he charged out of the door at full speed, bolted down the street, grabbed a baseball bat from the hands of one of the locals youths and returned a moment later; baseball bat in hand. He tossed it to what appeared to be the owner of the jewelers (who had only just appeared from behind the counter), winking and tapping his nose. "Great job detaining him sir." This was his usual routine, he thought it best to keep a low cover, as not to be noticed by the police. In fact, until tonight he doubted many even knew he existed, and that was how he liked it. However he'd made a mistake, the robbery was far too high profile, and he took too much time gloating. For once in his life, James had been too slow. He turned to his unknown helper. "It's probably best for us to leave. If you want to go your own way that's just fine, but I personally think it would be rather nice to talk to another street savior." Glancing at the jeweler, he continued. "May we go out the back way?" In return he was offered a hasty, slightly wary nod, and James smiled in gratitude.

Lyra cringed as the boy ripped away the vines. They were even weaker than she had thought. What was the owner of this stupid shop thinking?
She watched, slightly amused, as the man was beat up by his super-fast enemy. That must be his metahuman skill. Well, that must be a whole lot more useful than being princess of the plants.
So it was over. She noticed that he'd even conjured up a reasonable cover story....... And was now heading towards her?
“Um.....okay,” the reply came in a whisper. She didnt need her cover blown. Of course, this was quite far from the place she worked, but still dangerous. It seemt to be the same for her lovely new......friend. Two metahumans both trying to hide their powers. Great. Restoring the power of the plant, she smiled softly .
“Try to water her more often. She's very weak,”

Dusting Off the Old Hero Boots. Empty Re: Dusting Off the Old Hero Boots.

Post by Madhouse on June 18th 2013, 5:20 pm

James lead the way, finally strolling out of the back of the store into a dark alleyway, he walked to the corner near the street, popped his head around and saw that the crowd of people had retreated from their windows. He was about to step out, when his ears detected a siren, one of the onlookers must have called the police. James turned, speaking to his companion. "We can't go that way, the police should be arriving soon." He scanned the alleyway, spotting a fire escape, he gestured to it. "That's probably the best way." Leading once again, he strolled up to the fire escape and began ascending it, the sirens drawing ever closer. The ascent was painstaking as he had to be sure to make as little noise as possible, due to the thin walls of the apartments. Due to this silence, he was able to pick up a few words after the police pulled up at the jeweler's. He heard what he assumed to be the voice of the jeweler. "There were things! They did this, not me! T-They went that way!"
"Thank you, now I want you to take a seat and tell me everything. Henderson, check out the back."

Moments later, a rush of footsteps could be heard, slowly advancing. James stopped moving, hoping his companion would do the same. As expected, the one he assumed to be Henderson emerged, brandishing a flashlight. He lingered for an eternity, before beginning to make his way back inside. Typically, James sighed and began to move again, making his way up the stairs again. However, in a streak of bad luck their weight proved to be too much for the old escape route, and two of it's corners were detached from the wall, causing it to swing and slam into the parallel building with a predictably loud sound accompanying it. Right on cue, the two police officers rushed out, shining their flashlights upwards in order to inspect what was going on. Of course, they were seen, and the unnamed officer grabbed his radio, screaming into it for backup. In a moment, James turned to his partner. "I can survive bullets, climb up first. Run."

Lyra silently followed the guy. Obviously he was used to this kind of stuff. Maybe he routinely did it. Seeing him gesture to the fire escape, she climbed up after him. The fire escape sure didn't look so steady. It creaked slightly. Probably too much wieght for the old flight of stairs that had survived for so many years. Hearing the shopkeeper choak out his words made her flinch slightly. They were so busted.
As the footsteps of the poilceman became louder, she froze. But unfortunately the fire escape........
Great.

Then the next thing she heard was the guy trying to get her up first. What a gentleman. She began to think. Then it sturck her.

Her powers. Flying. She could use it.
“Ohno dude, there is no way i am leaving you here,”grabbing a bit of the guy's hoodie she flew up to the top of the building. Their cover was blown anyway. What else could she do? At least they were alive AND free.

The look on James' face when being hauled to the roof by a girl significantly smaller and lighter than him  can only be described as that of surprise. Unsurprisingly, their ascent was followed by gunfire, all of which hit James. Thankfully, they bounced off, leaving him unscathed. When plonked on the roof, he didn't take long to formulate a plan. "Thank you. That was much easier than what I had in mind. They'll be here soon, though, and doubtless with reinforcements. Still i'd estimate we have a second or two. You may call me James, by the way, and as i'm sure you're able to tell I haven't been around here for very long." James was of course speaking of his crisp British accent, something reeking of a privileged upbringing, no matter how hard he tried to hide it (he didn't).

"So, as you may have guessed I posses super speed, accelerated thinking, and I'm extremely durable." He checked for the police, who seemed to have retreated to wait for backup. "Now, firstly i'd like to know your name, and secondly i'd like to know what abilities you posses, in order for me to adapt to favour them if needed." His tone was rather formal, and very authoritative, but was in no way unkind.

Lyra was suprised at the boy's calmness. His british accent too. She hadn't expected somebody british to be here.
Well, maybe he was roch. That would certainly explain it. While she listened to the boy talk she checked him for bullet wounds just in case.
“You're not hurt.” she murmured.
Maybe that was why he'd been.....well, reckless. Well, he had a lot of abilites, that was for certain. More abilites like a hero. He probably had a pretty good life so far. From what she saw, this guy had been cradled in luxury for a great deal of his life. It certainly felt like it, with hos fine name, accent and voice.
“My name is Lyra Cross. As you saw, I can manipulate plants and fly. I can also heal others. Only others,”
a little paltry compared to his, but still.

(OOC: Sorry this is so short, posting this in class from my phone)

James nodded, "Fair enough, those could all be helpful." He gazed around for a moment, looking for somewhere to escape to. At last, safety was spotted on the horizon. In the moonlight, a small park was placed in the distance, littered with trees and dead black, save from the natural light provided by the moon.

"I propose we move there, to the park." The speedster said, pointing. "It will give us somewhere to hide,  and you will be able to utilise your powers if needed. We just need to..." He trailed off when the sound of blades whirring echoed from the skies, and the pair were lit up by a bright spotlight. James glanced at his. companion once again. "Lets get to the park first, we can deal with the helicopter there."

“The park?”Lyra echoed. Well, it was a good strategy. Maybe James wasn't as reckless as she thought.
The place in question seemd to be pretty nice. Judging by her limited sight she could even see a community garden. Nice choice.
“So, will we be-”
she flinched as the spotlight came on. This was exactly what she didnt have in mind. If they got caught now, she'd end up in juvie for all her troubles. Not a pretty plan, considering that she was already on the run from the police.
“Let's go. Fast,”

Smiling, he agreed with Lyra. "I like that sentiment...sorry in advance by the way." Without giving her time to complain, he hoisted her over his shoulder; thanking the heavens she was light; and began to sprint. The helicopter kept it's searchlight on the pair despite James' best efforts to avoid it, and he could hear police cars amassing around the whole block. Soon, he made it to the end of the block, the park being only across the street. James stopped at the edge, shifting Lyra from his shoulder into both of his arms. "I'd get ready to fly if I were you."

With that, he retreated from the edge, turned and bolted back towards it, jumping at the very last moment. Whilst he was 'flying' over the street he took a look downwards, noticing the crowd of police officers, all with their mouths hanging wide open. Soon, it became clear the two were going to reach the park, and as such James pushed Lyra upwards in the air, letting go of her and shouting "Fly!" A moment later, James landed on the ground with a thud, thankfully he was unhurt. He looked back to see how Lyra was doing.

“Um-”her words transformed into a gasp as James hoisted her over his shouder like a sack of flour.
Seriosly? One part of her was dead scared, while the other wondered if she was light or not. Obviously not. And:girl talk, really? When a british guy had her hoisted over his shoulder and running faster than an olympic runner. Yep. Well, that was one thing years of running away hadnt destroyed.

Hearing Jame's words. She immediately began to fly, inorder to not fall to their deaths.
But.....that was strange. He wasnt.......the looked down in horror.
Part of her wanted to scream at James. After all they had been through, that was his fantastic plan?

The most prominent of these trees was a great oak, towering above the rest. James pointed at it. "Can you use that thing to deal with the helicopter?"
