INV ONLY Re: Kings, Gods and thieves

Post by Fort/Sam on February 13th 2018, 2:31 pm

The group followed their guide though a narrow corridor that let the underground. Matilda couldn’t say if this unusual architecture was to keep people from easily getting in or out. And what was the purpose of having a main hall underground in the first place? Subterranean environments were generally not the most suitable places to invite guests. Not any she’d ever been to, anyway.

From the corner of her eye she looked at her companions. Ika had followed without questions. A sign of overconfidence from his side, or inexperience? From a member of the order of the binding light she’d have expected the first. If he really was one, that is. Apart from some odd behaviour, she hadn’t seen anything to support this claim. Nor anything that had proven her otherwise. For now, he remained an enigma.

Cebra had been less inclined to follow. Did he expect another ambush? These people had attacked them twice already. And they had Alvarez too, so he had every reason to distrust them.
Perhaps she’d been too quick to go along with them. But what alternative did they have? These people had Alvarez, for now they’d had to trust them and hope for the best.

The corridor ended at a wooden door. The same marking they’d seen at the entrance were carved in the wood. But why? What was the purpose of these symbols? What evil did they hope to repel with them? It was a question she couldn’t answer. Not yet, anyway.

Their guide opened the door, allowing them access to a larger room which had to be the main hall.
The main hall was as bare as the previous room. But where the later was eliminated by touches, this room bathed in light thanks to the fires burning in large bowls attached to the sealing. The scent of incense filled the room.

Unlike the room upstairs, the walls of this room were decorated by large paintings and hieroglyphs. Old, but well maintained. At least these people knew what they were doing. Their quantity, they filled every wall, and the fine state they were in, made an otherwise simple room feel special. Almost sacred.

Just a quick glance at the paintings was enough for Matilda to know they told a story of gods and pharaohs.  She would love to have a closer look at them, longer too. Undoubtedly they could teach her much about what was going on about here. Alas, she doubted she’d have the time to do so. As much as she loved being an archaeologist, Alvarez came first now.

Their guide pointed to a group of pillows lying in the circle, indicating that’s where they had to sit and wait. Before Matilda had the opportunity to ask him for more clarification, he had already left the room. The door closed behind him, though she didn’t hear a lock. At least they weren’t trapped.

“Anyone any suggestions?” she asked no one in particular.

Cebra walks around the room closely examining the walls, he runs his hands all along them feeling every bit of stone. Ika takes a seat on one of the pillows and closes his eyes while crossing his legs, he takes a deep breath before he speaks.

"Patience... If there's nothing we can do of a productive nature then we must wait for the situation to change. Perhaps someone will arrive soon or even Alvarez."

Cebra stops for a moment from his apparent analysis of the walls and rolls his eyes and head dramatically while groaning. An evident dismissal of Ika's attempt at coming up with a plan. In Cebra's mind all Ika said was he didn't have an idea at all. Cebra however was a little more pro active. Ika could almost feel Cebra's frustration at waiting in this room, it might have been amusing if his pacing back and forth feeling the walls wasn't annoying. Truly an odd feeling for the normall calm and measured Ika, Cebra brought out a side of him similar to dealing with an ass of a big brother but less close.

"There's nothing I can detect in the walls, no cameras or motion trackers present. Huh... It's not like I can go snooping around since I dont know the layout."

Cebra turns his head to Matilda with a pout.

"The kid might be right Matilda, if we want to get to Alvarez we might have to play things their way for now. Though I have no idea if they're being honest with us, what has Alvarez gotten himself into I wonder."

Ika's eye twitches at being called kid again, though he hides it well enough not wanting to Give Cebra the satisfaction. Ika then wondered if it might have been prudent to study more on Egyptian culture and mythology. The Shaman had told him he was merely hired to be a bodyguard to a good friend on a noble assignment. Of course a monk of the binding light is never just sent to deal with mortal issues. This meant there was some kind of dangerous magic involved, that being the reason Ika was armed with some banishment scrolls and demon wards but nothing strong. He also wondered if the Shaman knew that Cebra would be here and this woman. Ika was more comfortable around women oddly enough, he wasn't by any means romantically inclined. The fact was he just felt more at ease and light hearted with a feminine presence.

"We could always..."

"No."

"But you dont even."

"Yes I do and you're not going to be 'interrogating' anyone."

"Dont say that like I'm going to put nails through their hand and acid in the eyes. Just a little five knuckle shuffle you know."

Ika opens his eyes and looks sideways at Cebra with an incredulous expression.

"... Geez I was kidding, lighten up. You monks are stone cold I tells ya... But really I dont have a plan right now, we might as well relax I guess. Hey look fruit!."

Cebra walks over to a rickety looking wooden table, on the table is an ornate bowl with figs, pomegranite and some kind of nuts.

Post by Fort/Sam on February 15th 2018, 3:14 pm

Matilda couldn’t say she was surprised by Cebra’s statement. Everything around here was ancient and for what it’s worth, these people seemed to respect it somehow. They’d never damage it on purpose just to hide a bunch of cameras to spy on their guests. Who they probably didn’t have that often to begin with.

She sighted. Ika was probably right, apart from waiting there wasn’t much they could do right now. The thing was, waiting didn’t agree with her. Not when there were people she knew and care about in trouble or when there were now secrets of the past to unveil. Both where the case. There wasn’t much she could do about Alvarez right now, but she could have a closer look at those paintings. It couldn’t hurt and who knew, maybe she’d find some clue that would explain all of this.

While passing the table, she ignored the nuts even though they looked very tasty. She was aware it was considered rude in many cultures to eat food before it was offered to you by the host. The last thing she wanted right now was to offend their host by displaying bad manners. It would only serve to make a bad situation worse.

She looked at the first painting. It pictured two people with the body of men, but the heads of a falcon. The right one had a big sphere with a cobra sticking out on his head. Even without the inscriptions below she knew it was the sun god Ra. The other man had no headgear yet was labelled as Horus. But why wasn’t he wearing his crown? Even when pictured as a child, Horus wore his crown. Strange.

Ra seemed to hand something to Horus. A curved sword by the looks of it. What was the significance of this? She had never seen a painting like this before. Nor one where Horus wore a sword. Even with war being one of his domains.

“I see our history fascinates you, Lady Stark.”

Matilda looked up. The Man had returned. Even though he now wore simple, grey robes, there was something majestic coming from his. Around his neck hung a large, golden necklace that was supposed to represent Horus. She had seen others like it before, but never one with a bright, orange stone at the centre.

Cebra immediately and clumsily drops one of the figs on the table suprised by the old mans return.

"So about Alvarez, not to seem rude but you've kept us waiting a long time. Not to mention I'm still a little irritated at your... 'associates' attempt to dissuade us."

Ika turns to Cebra giving him a look that a disappointed mother might give her child and coughs trying to interupt Cebra before he offended their host.

"What? It's true. We dont exactly have many reasons to trust these people and it's already late in the night."

"You have a point I suppose, but it serves no purpose to be unkind."

Ika turns to the elderly man bowing his head.

"Would it be possible to see our friend Alvarez now?"

Post by Fort/Sam on February 23rd 2018, 6:14 am

The Man did not answer any question. He merely walked to the pillows at the centre as if it was an afternoon stroll in the park. Once he got there, he sank down on a pillow before turning his gaze at his three, albeit reluctant, guests, taxing them as if to determine their worth.

He looked at Matilda first. His piecing gaze couldn’t have remained fixed on her for more than a few second, but in this moment, Matilda felt she’d lost all sense of time. Had someone told her afterwards this Man had look at her for day, she’d have believed it.

Next, he moved his Gaze to Ika who was sitting in front of him. His gaze rested on him longer than it had on Matilda.

‘Thirty-one, thirty-two,’ she counted the passing seconds in her mind.

The Man frowned, though she couldn’t say what caused it. As far as she could judge, Ika had done nothing that might have made him do so. She was at forty-seven seconds now, much longer than he’d paid attention to her. After exactly sixty-three seconds he turned his attention away from Ika and focussed on Cebra. He didn’t grant him more than a few seconds notice before dismissing him entirely.

“Now, the matter of your friend,” the Man finally spoke before he clapped his hands.

Upon his signal two husky men dragged a third person in and unceremonially dropped him at the Man’s feet before taking place behind him with their arms crossed. The person they left behind let out a groan as he turned to his back. Even with his face covered in bruises and his clothes all thorn and messy, Matilda had no trouble recognizing Alvarez. His hooked nose, even when covered in blood, was enough of a physical characteristic to recognize him anywhere.

Matilda hurried to his side to check on him. His tweed jacket and originally white shirt were covered in dirt and blood. How much of it was his, she couldn’t say.  All she was able to do what determine that he had not sustained any major injuries on those bloody spots on his chest.

She turned her head in anger to the Man. “What did you do to him!” she snapped at the man.

“Necklace,” an injured Alvarez mumbled, praying that someone would hear him and complied.

He moved his head around a little. Amongst the people who had gathered, he recognized a familiar face he hadn’t expected to see: Matilda Stark. She had come. In spite of her scepticism, she had come. And now she was captured too.

If only he could get his hands on the necklace, he’d wipe away any doubt about his theories. It was frustrating to know it was within arm reach, and yet far beyond his reach at the same time. Than his eye fell on the gun Matilda had hidden underneath her jacket. If he could just get it, he could turn the situation to their advantage and walk away with his prize.

Cebra looked at the disheveled bloody Alvarez with a quiet cold anger, his gaze quickly shifting to the two thugs that carried him in. He could feel it like electricity running through his veins besides the saxon energy. Cebra was ready to outright murder the two and the old man who sat there non nonchalantly. His fists clenched and relaxed in a rhythmic motion as his cold robotic glare fixated on one thug then the other. Part of him wanted to skip any formalities and shove his arm down one of their throats and start ripping out entrails. He managed to hold himself back as Alvarez was merely injured and not dead.

Ika had a tendency to wear his emotions on his sleeve, honesty being part of the monks psyche. A blue aura surrounded his body as the sound of crackling lighting can be heard coming from him. He stares with ire at the elderly man who he had once thought to be at least a reasonable person. At the same time he also notices Cebra and the general homicidal feeling emanating from him. While Ika would like nothing more than to punish these men for what they did to Alvarez he did not want to see them all killed. Everyone seemed to be angered by this turn of events including Matilda. Perhaps it was best Ika tried to keep a level head less this devolve into a bloody brawl.

"You will answer her right now. Why have you brought harm on this man? There was no need for such brutal measures, or is this how you treat all foreigners to your country?"

The Man was unimpressed by the display of power in front of him. He remained seated as if nothing special was going on.

“This is how we treat anyone who plans to force and entrance her and steal our treasures,”
The man replied with a voice devoted of all emotion. “He was spared because of his reputation. His hirelings were not. So tell me, who is the guilty party here? Those who claim what is not theirs, or those who defend what little they have left?”

Matilde was shocked. She knew Alvarez wanted to get his expedition started as soon as possible and would go to any length to do so. But resort to thievery? She didn’t expect him to sink this low. This was not the behaviour of the man she knew and even admired. What could have gotten into him that he wanted to resort to such drastic methods to obtain his goals? And what was in here that he wanted so badly in the first place?

Her eyes want to the pictures on the wall. Had it something to do with the story they told? It had been something she’d never seen before, but was it reason enough? She couldn’t let go of this question. Only when she heard the clicking of a gun did she focus again on the here and now.

Alvarez had drawn a gun and kept it pointed at the Man. Immediately Matilda realised Alvarez has used a moment of carelessness on her part to steal her gun.

“I’ll have that necklace now, if you don’t mind,” Alvarez spoke softly.

Cebra looks back to the now armed Alvarez with an annoyed expression.

"You've got to be kidding me. I came half way around the world to get stabbed in the back by you? Just why do you want the necklace so bad anyways? A piece of jewelery is nothing to kill over."

Cebra's muscles tense as he gets ready to spring himself on Alvarez. Cebra could stop a bullet no problem, but being fast enough to block them from hitting anyone else was another case. Judging by the distance between Ika, Matilda, the thugs and the old man he'd only be able to protect Matilda and Ika. Ika was however more than capable of evading gun fire if he needed to, part of the monks training was learning to evade modern fire arms. Ika was a little moe shocked at Alvarez sudden turn. He backs up to the wall and moves near to Cebra.

"Any ideas?"

"He looks pretty intent on getting that necklace. I would like to know what's so important about it."

Matilda felt she was going to be sick. How could Alvarez do something like this? She respected him, even trusted him. And now he had stolen her gun to threaten another party. And what for, to get his hand on a necklace? No matter the objects worth, she couldn’t tolerate such behaviour.

She got up her feet, frenzied trying to come up with a solution to get out of here. Preferably with a minimum amount of violence. But how, dashing at Alvarez? Would he shoot her? Until a minute ago she would have said no, now she wasn’t so sure any more. He might very well shoot her if he believed it would benefit his plans. Of he might just shoot her by accident. Either way, mindlessly dashing at him was out of the question.

“Because it’s the key!” Alvarez shouted. He turned his gaze at the Man who, despite all the commotion had remained seated. “And you know it, don’t you?” he asked the man while waving his gun. “So just give it to me and we’ll all be on our way.”

“I cannot permit that,” the Man finally spoke. “My ancestors swore an oath that the doors must never be opened again. It will stand by that oath and am willing to kill and die to keep it standing. We all are.”

With these words he stood up and hurled himself at Alvarez. For a moment it was silent, then a loud bang echoed though the room. The Man stopped in his tracks and staggered. He did a step backwards. There was a rapidly expending scarlet stain at the height of his stomach.

The two men who had been standing behind the Man finally moved. The first hurried to support his master as he fell down while the other roared with anger before throwing himself at Alvarez.
The gun fired a second time and this man too, fell to the ground.

Alvarez blinked, clearly in shock. For all this threatening, this wasn’t the outcome he had anticipated. But he was distracted, now was the moment to try and disarm him before he could do even more harm.

“To arms, they have attacked the Master!” the first guardian shouted in Arabic.

The ensuing chaos of the guards coming at Alvarez and the rest of the group was a mess. In an instant Cebra puts his palm to one of the guards chest and releases a surge of Saxon energy . The burst while not strong enough to kill the guard sends him flying back ten feet and slams against the wall, he hits the floor twitching. Cebra then runs over to the elderly man on the floor with the gun shot wound and kneels down looking him over. Cebra's medical abilities outside of his own nanobots healing himself was minimal. Cebra was made for espionage, assassination and warfare, he managed to download a first aid course for first responder android. He applied pressure to the wound to stop the bleeding, as he had no other tools or material there wasn't much else he could do.

Ika stood directly between Matilda and the other thug staring both of them down. Ika glances back at Matilda unsure of if he should just stand and fight or get everyone out. The thug gives little time for Ika to choose becoming angered at the sight of Cebra striking his comrade. On the side of his waist is another hand gun which he goes for quickly. He takes aim at Ika and squeezes the trigger with no hesitation. Ika manages to move himself out of the aim of the gun faster than the thug can aim, he keeps the focus on him and away from Matilda not sure of her mental state.

"Come on old man talk to me. Fuck I cant stop all the bleeding!."

Cebra not paying attention to the fight catches a ricochet in the shoulder forgetting to shield himself. The thunderous pain is immediate as shown by the silent gasp on Cebra's face. Being used to such pain however Cebra merely uses his energy to push the bullet out of his own wound. That gives him an idea to try and draw out the round in the old man. When Cebra tries he feels no round in the man, looking at the mans back he notices the problem letting out a defeated sigh. The round went through the old man hitting his lungs and making a large exit wound. He didn't have long to live.

‘How did things manage to get out of hand like this?’ Matilda wondered. This chaos wasn’t new to her, she’d been in similar situations more often than she liked to remember. As such she knew exactly what to do even when more guards entered the scene: get that necklace before Alvarez could get away with it.

She started moving. Alvarez seemed to have awakened from his trance and moved towards the gunned down Man in at attempt to get his hands on the necklace. He was closer, but she was faster. Just a few more feet. It was nearly within reach when someone grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her back.

It was a muscular man dressed in black robes and with a raised sword. No doubt part of the reinforcements drawn here by the guard’s shouting. She could try explaining him that this was a misunderstanding, that she had nothing to do with this mess, but something about the fierce expression on his face told her he wouldn’t be very susceptible by her talking.

When the man lashed at her, she narrowly evaded the attack. A quick analysis of the situation told her she was no match for this man when it came to physical strength. But where he had strength, she had agility. And experience. When the man struck again, she dashed aside, wrung her leg and kicked him in his side. Insufficient to take him down, but enough to bring him out of balance. Without giving him the time to recover, she lashed at him again. Two rapid kicks send him to his knees, allowing her to finish with a well-aimed punch to the head.

With the immediate danger taken care of, Matilda turned her attention back to Alvarez just in time to see how he had reached the man. He bended and reached for the necklace. When he touched the jewel the orange gemstone at its heart began radiating a blinding light.

Cebra didn't notice Alvarez approach the necklace being preoccupied now with the chaotic fighting. Not wanting to actually murder the guards but also not get hit himself was a tricky task. The blinding light however was enough to distract both Ika and Cebra.

"What?!"

Ika tosses one guard over his shoulder before he see's the light and raises his arm to block out the light. Cebra's sensors detect an unknown energy emanating from the amulet. The energy keeps growing as Cebra backs up now having the energy interfere with his cybernetics. He begins discharging Saxon energy at random putting everyone in danger.

"Gah it... it burns! Fuck! My skin! Grrrrrrrrr! Get away!"

A change comes over Cebra's voice, some deeper malevolence echos in his words as they sound more angry. The sound of his words alone affect others around him like an aura of oppressive evil pushing others back. The energy bolts fly out from Cebra striking two of the guard. They both scream out in terror as the energy bursts from their eyes and flesh. They burn up from the inside out reducing to ash.

"Cebra!"

"I... I cant stop! There's something!.... In me! K... Kill me!"

Ika looks at Cebra shocked grimly for a moment. He the realizes Cebra's powers and that he has no choice but to kill Cebra before the situation grows worse.

"Matilda I know this may seem wrong but we've got to kill Cebra."

The blinding light forced Matilda to shield her eyes. She didn’t like the idea of being this vulnerable out in the open but it was the only thing she had the time for. With any luck everyone else would have to do the same or be blinded by the light preventing them from exploiting this weakness for the time being.

The burst of light didn’t last for long. Carefully Matilda lowered her hands, ready to move them up again at the first sign of trouble. It proved to be an unnecessary precaution, the stone in the necklace had returned to its normal form. And the necklace was still in Alvarez his hands.

Her first thought was to tackle him and grab the necklace from him before he could get away with it. But he was still armed and there was the possibility the stone inside would shine again the moment she touched it. If that happened, she’d have no way to defend herself. Still, it was their best way to get the necklace. Maybe if she didn’t touch it directly? She could wrap it in her jacket. It seemed a good as plan as any.

She was already halfway through the room, Alvarez didn’t seem to be aware of her intentions, when a sudden scream coming from Cebra caused her to look aside. Just in time to witness some form of electricity erupting from his body. Was that caused by the necklace? She couldn’t help but wonder.

This single question was enough to bring her to a full stop. A new energy outbreak appeared to be imminent. Alvarez disappeared from her mind completely as she hurried to safety behind one of the many stone pillars from where she peaked at Cebra.

In front of her eyes she witnessed him disintegrate two guards who hadn’t found shelter fast enough. all that remained from them was a pile of smoking ash.

Cebra was in pain, that was for sure. Whatever caused him to do this wasn’t under his control. Which didn’t make him any less dangerous. On the contrary. If it had been a conscious action she might have detected a pattern in it. With things how they were now, she might as well be going up against a force of nature; unable to predict his next move.

She heard Cebra shout, begging them to hill him. Ika, for some reason, seemed to agree with him on this. She knew the two men weren’t the best of friends, but if either of them believed she was going to kill one of her own expedition she had news for the both of them!

Still, something had to be done about Cebra before he killed them all.

From behind her safety of her pillar she began scanning the room for anything they might use. There was a sword lying at the other end of the room. A metal weapon wasn’t her first choice when going up against a man who could shoot bolts of electricity but she wasn’t in a position to be picky. She began taking of her leather jacket.

“Give me some cover!” she shouted at Ika.

Without waiting for an answer, she jumped out of shelter and dashed straight for the sword.

Ika would much rather kill Cebra and have him regenerate than risk their lives with a dangerous gambit. But Matilda seemed unconvinced by Ika's plea so rather than argue he'd just make sure she didn't get hit. Ika grabbed the table using it as a shield for whatever protection it would provide. Ika knew the level of destruction Cebra could cause when he was a willing participant, out of control who knows what would happen. If need be he would kill him or at least try to. Ika managed to block one hit of energy from Cebra before it exploded like confetti. Ika then changes to bright fist stance and uses closes to help shield Matilda.

Cebra ceases moving or speaking but still firing energy. His flesh is both healing and burning at the same time revealing the bone and metal underneath periodically. After a moment Cebra seems to regain himself and looks over his body, still firing energy off erratically. In a now calm yet completely different deeper voice Cebra speaks.

"Hmm interesting... This host is not suitable and yet. Strong enough to hold me... Sort of."

Cebra turns to Ika and raises an eyebrow. Ika stops dead as do his clones and look back taken back by the sudden change.

"You... your name is Ika... your one of those insufferable demon wardens I see. Have you come for me? No impossible, your kind would not know of my creation."

"What... Who are you? What are you doing to Cebra?!"

Ika yells out half in hopes of knowing what creature or thing is in Cebra and half to distract from whatever Matilda was planning.

An electric discharge flew past her ear, hitting the wall in front of her and damaging the painting on it. Despite her survival instincts having taken the helm, the scholar inside her was still present to mourn the loss of this unique piece.

She got to the sword without further problems thanks to Ika shielding her with a table. She wouldn’t be doing that a second time, but it didn’t matter. Without slowing down, she bended, grabbed the sword as she passed by and rolled behind one of the pillars where she would be safe from these dangerous discharges. If such a place even existed.

Though invisible from behind the pillar, Matilda could still hear the two men talk. Something had gotten a hold on Cebra, that much was obvious to her now. And whatever it was, it was something that recognised Ika for what he truly was, a monk of the order of binding light.

If the stories about the order were only half true, whatever they were facing now was way out of her league and she ought to get out of here while she still could. Her family creed, however, told her otherwise. She was a Stark and she’d be dammed if she just gave up on this!

Quickly she wrapped her jacket around the sword. it should prevent any electrical attack hitting the blade from electrifying her. Or so she hopped. She’d have been more comfortable with a non-conductive material. A wooden club or something. With none of those near hand, this would have to do.

While killing a possessed person usually resultant in them being freed from mind control, she theorized a strong enough blow to the head with the hilt that it would leave the victim with a concussion might do the trick as well. Cebra might not be grateful about it when he’d regain consciousness but it would be preferable to the first option as it wasn’t a permanent state.
Now she only needed to get close enough to deliver the blow. Cebra, whatever was possessing him, seemed fully concentrated on Ika. This was her chance!

She jumped from behind the pillar and sprinted straight for Cebra with the hilt held high, ready to attack when she was within striking distance. It was a bold move, if things went sour she might not make it back to a safe place.

A bit too distracted with Ika, Matilda manages to slip past the beings notice.

"Cebra?... How common, you will address me as YOUR GOD!"

In that moment the being in Cebra radiates with intense energy amplifying by the second. It looks as though he's going to release it as well, there' no way for Ika to tell how destructive it's going to be and he tries to shield himself with his clones. Luckily before anything could happen Matlida lept forward in such an intense burst of speed the being in Cebra did not have time to react. The swift strike to the back of the head made the being yell out loud as he fell forward. The tone of his yell changing quickly from the echoing boom of that thing possessing Cebra back to Cebra's voice. Cebra goes down hard smashing his head on the floor, the blood slowly seeping out. The energy coming from Cebra seems to have calmed down, only a moment later a massive surge of energy in an almost spectral form screeches loud and rise from Cebra's body. It's eyes despite the energy and light radiating from it is are pitch black. It growls with malice at Ika and Matilda before vanishing.

"... What in all the Hells was that thing?"

The clones of Ika vanish and a sense of calm and quiet returns to the small room, but the feeling of death lingers. The scorches on the floor and the walls outlining the dead, piles of ash litter floor.
