With his head down, Dire continued to walk on with no regard of anything.
This was on his shoulders.
He hated that.
"Why do you believe in me so much? I just let a bunch of innocent people die..."
He broke off in tears again.
He felt hopeless.
All he wanted to do was help.

He stopped.
He looked down at his own katanas, and his two pistols.
He used to think they were wicked sick and amazing.
Now...
He just saw all the lives he took.
Innocent lives.
The amount that makes this massacre look like a scratch.
He was no different than the kid.
He really can't change.
He never can.
Never will.
"Ya know... If I could get rid of these powers in exchange for all the lives I've taken, I would without hesitation."

"You didn't let a bunch of people die, you tried to save them," Sam reminded him. "I would have preferred to see it different too, but what done is done. We're no gods, Dire. We can't always save everyone. And we can't reverse what has happened either, no matter how much we might want to.  How we handle defeat is as important as how we handle success. And wallowing in self-pity is not the right answer."

It may have been harsher than intended, but she didn't know what else to say in order for Dire to get a grip on himself again. Yes, they had failed to stop this from happening. And as a result people, innocent people we relied on them, who believed in them, had died. Of course she was devastated by this loss too. When the train flew of the rails, moments before is smashed into the ground and caught fire she had heard the people inside. Their screams of despair, and their prayers for aid that never came. They would stay with her for a long time. Something she would have to live with. But no matter the pain she felt right now, she wasn't going to give up because things didn't turn out like she had hoped.

"If you really want to do something, help me find this kid before he does this again."

Dire listened to Sam intently, though he found it very hard to believe her.
Wallowing in self-pity was just the thing he was good at!
He did believe it wasn't helping them find the kid though...
Well, that's what she ended up saying anyway.
"Yeah, but after I make sure those people at the hospital are okay... I've gotta know."

Once they arrived, he sighed.
They'd been in there for around 30 minutes, so all the critical ones would be in care and the moderate and mild conditions would be waiting.
He looked at Sam, "Well... How about we meet up tomorrow? Then we could figure out our next move."

She preferred to go after him right now, while the trail was still hot so to speak. On the other hand, she understood Dire needed a bit of time to process all of what happened. Maybe she'd follow his lead an return home too. Here it was still night, but back at home it would be dawn already. And she had classes to attend today. She'd better hurry back if she wanted to get there on time.

"I've got a few other things I need to take care of tomorrow, but I'll come back as soon as I can," she promised Dire.

Re: Numb [Sam]

Post by TheDastardlyDire on December 17th 2017, 5:08 pm

Dire nodded at Sam as she left, hurried over something.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dire walked into the hospital in costume.
He felt he deserved any flack he would get for what he did.
That didn't change the fact that he needed to check on the people there.
He walked up to the desk, "Hi, I'd like to see the people injured in that train crash, please..."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After going around seeing the varying degrees of injury and pain that was caused, his final visit was the wife that he carried out when the fire started...
Turns out she was in pretty bad shape.
Three broken ribs, a broken arm, fractured ankle, concussion, and third degree burns on her face.
He sat down by her, biting his lip. He never felt bad seeing someone like this. He was usually the cause of it happening.
The woman looked up and smiled.
"Thank you..."
Dire just shook his head.
"Is Nathan okay? My son."
Dire nodded.
"My husband?"
Dire nodded again.
"Oh thank God." She sighed, you could tell there was a huge burden taken off of your shoulders.
After a long, sullen silence, Dire spoke up.
"I didn't know there was so much wrong... I would've carried you a bit more careful..."
She shook her head, "No need to be sorry, you saved my life. I'm lucky to have gotten away with this much."
Dire nodded and stood.
"I hope you have a quick recovery."
As he walked out, she called "You're my hero!"
He turned and pointed back at her, "Now, that, I am not."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As he was walking out, he caught a lot of awkward glances.
He realized the tape from the rooftop was playing on the news.
He was headed out until he heard something that utterly pissed him off.
"Oh, there's the so-called hero who can't do his job."

Dire stopped.
His red irises flared.
He turned heel on the man, cloak flowing in the wind of his speed.
Even though this man was probably one-hundred pounds heavier and five inches taller than Dire, he picked him up by his collar off the ground.
"Can't do my job? I can't do my FUCKING job?!" He yelled, slamming him against the wall.
"What'd you expect?! Me to pop the kid in the dome! Right then and there?! Is that the better option?!"
The man stood, "My wife and son are in there because of you!"
"IF IT WEREN"T FOR ME YOUR WIFE AND SON WOULD BE DEAD YOU INSIGNIFICANT WORM!!!"
His voice sounded like all the voices screaming in hell joined together for a perfectly harmonious chorus coming from all directions.
Everyone fell completely silent.
Even Dire.
He didn't know where that came from.
He didn't think he was an insignificant worm.
Even if the man were pissing him off, he would've said something like "asshole", or something like that.
Dire looked at the now startled man.
He looked down to see he had two kunais drawn.
He never did that.
Did he?
Panicked, he left the hospital.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After waiting until nighttime, he called Sam.
He TOTALLY got it for work purposes and TOTALLY not for late-night booty calls.
"Hey, sleeping beauty. If you could sleep, that is. Call the ambassador and tell her we're on his tail. I would do it myself, but she has my number blocked. She's just mad I didn't think our date went well. Dire over and out."
As soon as he hung up the phone, the man who submitted the footage of Dire and Sam on the rooftop walked into his office.
When he turned the lights on, the man found Dire sitting at his desk with his feet propped up on the nice glass desk.
"Nice office. Really like the modern touch. Never was a fan of the old school stuff."

The man's eyes went wide as he scrambled for the door.
Using his speed, he caught the man in a one handed choke-hold.
"Who're you running from, bud? It's just your friendly neighborhood mercenary."
He said as he teleported to the roof.

On the roof, Dire was dangling the man off the side.
"Now, I know you have back-alley cameras. So why don't you show them to me?"
The man just continued to hysterically yell and scream.
"What's the matter? Your camera not up here recording all this, so you're incapable of being a blood sucker?! WHERE ARE THE CAMERAS?!"

Re: Numb [Sam]

Post by Fort/Sam on December 19th 2017, 3:28 pm

The flight back went smoothly. Most of it was crossing an ocean with not much to be seen. While the calm sound of the waves usually had a smoothing effect on her, it didn’t help her to clear her mind this time. The moment she closed her eyes, which she could do out here without having to worry she might accidentally crash into something, she saw the burning wreckage of the train in front of her and she heard the screams of the people trapped inside again. It had been like that for most of the way back.

By the time she arrived back in Brussels, it was already light again and the city below slowly came to life. Given the time difference and the time she’d been away, this was hardly surprising. She entered her apartment through the window she had left open and almost instinctively checked her alarm clock.

Her heart nearly skipped a beat. It was already past eight! And her classes started at eight thirty! Without checking if they were still okay, she collected the clothes that were lying around from yesterday and put them on before grabbing her backpack on the way down. There wasn’t any time to eat before leaving. Not that she needed, to, but having a full stomach was still preferable to having to wait until noon in order to have the chance to eat again.

At the front door she slipped into her shoes before rushing out. It was too late to grab her bike and drive to the campus. Even with a bus she wouldn’t make in on time. And her professor wasn’t the type of person who let students in after the class had started. She ran down the stairs and once she was out, jumped into the air. Fortunately, she had other means to get there on time.

***

With a blank expression on her face Sam trudged the staircase up. She couldn’t understand what had happened earlier today. When she had arrived at campus, the people the usually socialised with before the classes started, had kept their distance from her without any explanation. From the corner of her eye she had spotted them looking her way, but the moment she turned her head they all looked away. And what was the worst of all, they didn’t even talk to each other. Maybe because they knew she could overhear their conversation.

The classes themselves hadn’t been any different. Like she always did for this course she sat down halfway the first row only to find out her fellow students sat down at the edges of the first and second rows. For the duration of the classes, everyone, her professor included, seemed to ignore her presence. When the classes had finally ended, after what seemed an eternity, she had decided to just return home instead of joining her fellow students for a sandwich in the campus’ cafeteria as was her habit.

She put her key in the lock and opened the door and noticed she didn’t have to do the usual double spin to open the door. Either Arielle was in, or she had forgotten to fully lock the door before leaving.

“Anyone home?”
she asked when closing the door behind her. She heard footsteps accompanied by the sound of something popping against the floor coming her way. When eth door separating the hallway and the living room open, she was greeted by an unexpected face.
She was faced with an athletic woman in her mid-fifties with short brown hair and hazel eyes almost identical to her own. She wore a loose black training suit and leaned on an elbow crutch for support.

“Aunt Saskia, what are you doing here?”
she asked.

Of all the people she had expected to see today, her aunt hadn’t been high on the list. She knew why she was here though. Who best to reprimand her for yesterday’s screw-up than her predecessor? She straightened her back and looked up, ready to accept what was coming her way. Her aunt limped closer, lifted her arm and pulled her against her shoulder.

This wasn’t what she had expected. If her aunt had yelled at her, telling her it was her fault all those people had died, she would have understood it. Even accepted it. But this, this feeling of comfort. She wasn’t prepared for it.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t here earlier,” her aunt told her.

This was too much to bear for Sam. Tears started welling up in her eyes. “It’s my fault those people died,” she sobbed as tears rand down her cheeks. “I could have done something about it. I should have, but I didn’t. And now people won’t even talk to me.”

Her aunt said nothing. She just kept her arm around her until she was finished crying. When she last tear dried up, she backed off from her aunt, and looked her in the eyes.

“What am I supposed to do now?” she asked, almost hoping her aunt had some sort of magical solution that would lake everything okay again.

“For starters we’re going to sit down, this leg’s killing me if I stand too long,” her aunt told her.

Sam accompanied her aunt to the couch in front of the television. There stood two cups of hot thee on the small table in front of them. One was already touched. Her aunt sat down and tapped on the seat next to her as an invitation. When Sam had taken place next to her aunt, her aunt handed her the full cup which she gratefully accepted. It still felt a bit strange, though, being handed a drink in your own place.

“There’s two things you need to know,” her aunt started after she had picked up her own cup. “First what happened over there. You’ve misjudged a situation. It happens to the best of us. It’s not about not making mistakes, but learning from them so you won’t make the same mistake next time. It may seem harsh now, considering people were injured and even died because of it, but that’s how it works. Experience can be a harsh teacher.”

Sam nodded. It was basically the same she had told Dire yesterday to get to get him to move again. It seemed she needed to hear it too in order to get a move on.

“And the other?” she asked after a minute off so.

“The people aren’t angry at you, if that’s what you’re thinking,” her aunt began. “The problem lays with how they perceive you. So far, they’ve always believed that no matter what happens, you’ll always be able to protect them from all harm. A lot to expect from a single person, no matter what you’re capable of. Now they’ve come to realise that you can’t. For them that’s a rude awakening. But that’s something they’ll have to sort out for themselves. All you can do is keep doing your best.”

“But things will get back to normal?”

“Oh yes, just give it a couple of weeks. And not everyone feels that way. When I got here, two of your friends were already waiting to help you. I’ve had to send them away so I could talk to you in private. That black-haired one seemed like she wouldn’t late me speak if I allowed her to stay. I’d promised you’d give them a call when we were finished.”

Sam smiled. If felt good to know no matter what happened, she had friends standing ready for her.

“Does this mean we’re finished?” she asked after a minute of silence.

“Not unless you want it to. I can stay the rest of the day, if you like.”

“Thanks.” She hesitated for a moment. “Mom’s going to tell me to stop again after this, want she?”

Her aunt took another sip from thee before she answered. “My sister’s obsession about you quitting comes in part because she worries about your safety. All parents do, it’s natural. And for what it’s worth, she is actually proud of what you’re doing. She just has a funny way of expressing it. But don’t tell her I said so.”

A funny way of expressing, that was an understanding. But perhaps her aunt was right. She had only ever thought about her own reasons why she should continue on her current path without trying to look it from her mother’s point of view. Maybe she ought to do that and see how it turned out. Maybe her aunt was right, and her mother really didn’t know how to properly express her worries apart from complaining.

“I won’t,” she promised. “You’re staying for lunch? I haven’t eaten all day.”

“Sure, why not.”

***

Sam opened an eye when an annoying buzzing filled her bedroom. This time she immediately recognized it as her phone. What was it with people calling her this early in the morning? She moved an arm from under the blanket, carefully not to wake Anna who was sleeping next to her with her head resting on her shoulder. Not as easy as it sounded given that the bed was suited for a single person.

She took her phone and brought it to her ear. It was Dire and he had news regarding that kid! Immediately she was wideawake. Given the state she had left him in, she hadn’t expected to hear from him this soon. At least not with results.

She set up straight in bed and informed the ambassador, as Dire had asked her. It was hard to say if the ambassador was pleased with this information. Wisely she had kept the reason why Dire hadn’t called her himself private. Given that Dire hadn’t given her much information, there wasn’t much for her to pass on. And all of it was very vague too, so it wasn’t all that surprising the ambassador would delay her judgement until she was presented more information.

Even though Dire hadn’t told her to fly over, Sam believed it was wise if she did. She slipped out of bed, only to feel a hand pulling her left arm.

“You’re awake,” she said as she turned around to face Anna. “How much did you hear?”

“Everything. You’ve got an annoying ringtone, you know that?” she sat up straight too, putting their eyes on the same level. “You’re going.” It wasn’t as much a question as a simple statement.

“I’ve got to,” Sam replied before she got up and started putting some clothes on. “I need to do this. Both for myself and to make sure Dire doesn’t do anything he might come to regret.”

“Just be careful, okay?”

“I promise,” Sam said. She gave Anna a quick kiss on the cheek before she left by the window.

"To make sure doesn't do anything he might come to regret."

Just as that was said, Dire smiled.
"Thank you!" He said cheerily as he dropped the columnist off the roof to his death.
The man hit the ground with a sickening splat.
Dire reeled his head back and laughed, "O-ho-ho, MAN! That was just gruesome! I love my job..."
He took his leather gloves off, and stuck his hands in the blood pooling up from the man.
"I was always the best finger painter around."

After doing what was probably the tenth most disgusting thing he's done, he sat down at the man's desk and opened up his computer.
He was going through the camera's all through the building, as well as behind and beside.

When Sam would arrive, there would be the words "Come on in!" written in blood on the doorway.
When Sam would enter, Dire would be dancing to "I'm Bad" by Michael Jackson with prestine Michael Jackson dancing.
"Because I'm bad, I'm bad! and the whole world has to answer right now just to tell you once again, who's bad!"
He would then point to the computer that shows the kid they were looking for.
His face and all.
"Now, before you get you panties in a bunch, that guy slipped out of my hands. Also! We didn't hit a dead-end, but you've gotta come with me to my apartment... All the way in L.A."

Re: Numb [Sam]

Post by Fort/Sam on December 21st 2017, 11:51 am

Less than half an hour later Sam arrived on the scene. As her cave billowed in the evening wind, she stopped for a moment to look around. The scars of yesterday’s assault were still visible. The whole area was fenced off and a few small bulldozers had begun to clean up the smaller debris pieces. The wreckage of the train was left untouched. It would need a specialized crane to move it from here. If it was even possible to do so. She made a mental note to come back later to see if there was anything she could do to help with the clean-up.

But where was Dire? He had said he had found a clue, but he was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps he was standing somewhere out of sight? She extended her search area further to see if she could find him when a commotion in front of a building caught her attention. She hovered closer to have a full oversight.

In the street-light she saw a group of about a dozen people had gathered at the front of a large building she recognized all to well from yesterday. Two men in police uniforms kept them away from two other men who sat kneeled on the pavement. Something lay in-between them, but she couldn’t see what it was. She descended and noticed it was the body of a man laying in a puddle of blood. By the looks of it he must have fallen, or jumped off the roof. Tragic, but why were there people pointing at the building? One even tried to take a picture of it, which one of the police officers tried to prevent. That was unusual. She flew closer.

“Officer, what hap-,” she started. Her voice died when she spotted the invitation written in blood. What sort of a sick joke was this?

“Oh, it’s you,” one of the officers stated coldly when he recognized her. “Yeah, we’re wondering about that ourselves,” he continued. “Got a call someone had fallen of the roof so we came to check and found our friend there.” This man didn’t have to tell her anything, especially not after yesterday, but he did so anyway. “We don’t know what he was doing here, we’re waiting for reinforcements before going in. it’s a big place, you know. I don’t reckon you… you know, going in first? I mean, someone must have written that. And the trail leads inside.”

“Stay here,” she told the policemen, “I’ll check it out.”

She ventured inside. The trail led her to the elevator. It wasn’t difficult to figure out to which flow however did this went, that bottom was stained with blood too.  Not to mess with any investigation that might follow, she used the elevator to go to the floor before it, and did the last step with the stairs.

When she reached the designated floor, she heard music playing. She didn’t even need her enhanced hearing to pick it up. Either someone around her was deaf, or it was an obvious attempt to lure her somewhere. She followed the noise to a closed door. Instead of bursting in, she used her X-ray vision to check what was on the other side. Much to her surprise she found Dire dancing on the desk. Was this his way of looking for clues?

She opened the door, stepped in, and pulled Dire’s radio out of the plug.

“Care to explain what the meaning of all of this is?” she asked him.

She blinked when Dire almost as a jest mentioned that guy outside had slipped out of his hand. Slipped out of his hand? She didn’t even listen to the rest he had to say. Her feet lifted from the floor until she was able to look down on him. At tactic that usually was able to remind people just what they were dealing with.

“What have you done?” she asked with a icy voice, putting the emphasis on each word.

Re: Numb [Sam]

Post by TheDastardlyDire on December 21st 2017, 4:33 pm

Dire stifled a laugh when Sam began to float off the ground.
"That's a pretty cool trick, hope you don't think I'm scared or anything."

He walked over to the radio and plugged it back in, turning it down so they could hear each other.
"I forgot this is where we clash in morals. See... I ACTUALLY didn't mean to kill that guy. I was dangling over the edge of the building so I could get the password to his computer. I was using it as a scare tactic. It's not my fault the little..." He balled his fist and growled before taking a breath to calm himself, "He kicked himself out of my hand willingly. I had him, he didn't want to be had. Sorry for his luck."

He plopped down in front of the computer monitor and checked the front cameras.
"Seriously?! You had to call the cops?" He asked exasperatedly.
"I mean, yeah... Maybe I DID want him dead, but not enough to come all the way out here to kill him. If I REEEALLY wanted him dead, I would've sniped him from long range. Happy enough? Good. Now let's go before they storm in here and try and arrest me."

He was about to leave when he stopped.
"By the way, IF you decide that you're not on my side. If you TRY to bring me in. Even if you do get me in jail... People will die. Whether it be the cops trying to arrest me, the judge persecuting me, the inmates in jail, or the crazy people in the psych ward. People will die. So, they can either die for a good reason, or die for a bad reason."

After he went on that rant, his heart panged. He hated that. Everything he said. Even though it was true, he didn't want to believe it.
"Look... I don't want to be against you. You're a great person. I'm not saying that my way is right, but it's the way it's gonna happen. So, don't make me kill more than I have to. Don't make me kill those cops. Let's just get on with our investigation. Please?" He held out his hand, ready to teleport to his apartment.
With or without her.

Re: Numb [Sam]

Sam had to muster all her willpower not to turn away her head in utter disgust. How could he do this? After all he had told her, how he wanted to be a hero above everything else to do something like this. Had it just been a lie? Had he never wanted to be a hero in the first place and just spun a sad story to win her over? No, he seemed sincere when had had told her. Did it mean he had given up just because things hadn’t gone like he planned?

A scary though that nearly caused her to shiver. If a single bad experience could cause a person to go over the line like this… Maybe if she had been here, if she hadn’t returned home, this could have been avoided. If that was true, she was at least partly responsible for what had happened tonight.

It didn’t change the fact that a man had died tonight. And that Dire was at least partially responsible for his death. If he had not interrogated him the way he did, that man would not have tried to get away and would still be alive. The thing was, she wasn’t certain if Dire was telling the truth.

That scared her the most of all, that she was no longer able to trust another person. It made her feel as is the was really standing alone.

She did agree with Dire on one point, though. If she’d tried to attack him here, people would die. That had to be prevented at all costs. This didn’t mean that she was just going to let Dire get away with any of this. He had gone too far this time and would have to access the consequences of his actions.

“I’ll go with you, on two conditions,” she stated. “First, we do not harm this kid in any way. Once we have him, we turn him over to the authorities. Second, when this is over, I want you to turn yourself in too. A person died today, Dire, that is on you.”

She did not extend her hand to meet Dire’s offer to accompany him. Not until he had agreed to her conditions.

Dire listened to what Sam had to say and stood for a moment, then looked down.
He then threw his head back, laughing to the point of tears.
"That-heh- that's the funniest thing I've ever heard! I'm glad to see we're on joking terms now! Let's get going, you ol' kidder!"
After seeing Sam not taking his hand after that, he realized she was being dead serious.
"Wait, you're not joking? Turn myself in? Just because someone died because of me?!"
He was starting to get mad.
"I kill people almost daily! The police have linked me to HUNDREDS of crimes- HUNDREDS! Then there's the ones they HAVEN'T linked me to, almost in the thousands! So that's saying 'Willingly die for a murderers sake'. I'm saying no. I will NOT turn myself in."

After saying that, he paused and began to think about something.
His eyes widened, thinking of all the people he had sent there himself.
All the family members of inmates he killed.
He would get destroyed.
Immediately.
What a challenge!
"Okay, fine. I'll do it on three conditions."
He put up his middle finger.
"One: You visit me for 3 months. Every single day."
He put up his pointer finger.
"Two: We stop at one place before I do so."
He put up his ring finger.
"Three: I get to bring two items in with me. A pencil and a piece of paper. You can examine them and see that it is NOTHING but a pencil and paper."

He held out his hand to shake.
"If you agree to my terms, I'll agree to yours. Do we have a deal?"

His conditions sounded reasonable. Visiting him on a daily basis for three months seemed a small price if it would prevent him from harming anyone. Making a stop would almost certainly be this apartment he had mentioned earlier. His last request was a bit awkward though. What on earth could he want paper and a pencil for? She supposed it couldn’t cause much harm. At any rate she’d notice if there was something wrong with them.

“Very well, I accept your terms,” she answered as she shook his hand.

Dire looked down, dejected as Sam shook his hand.
He honestly thought that she would say no.
He didn't want to go to jail, but he was a man of his word.
Most of the time...
This was something he would hold true to, though.

As Sam was shaking his hand, he teleported the two to his apartment.
The inside was rather nice.
No mess what-so-ever, a modern look.
A bookshelf over in the corner, glass coffee table, nice couch.
It didn't look like the place a mercenary would sleep.
He plopped down in front of his computer and hooked up the flash drive he made of the files from the back alley camera.
He began hacking into the CCTV cams from the rest of the city, following him back to his house.
"Got ya..."
He never acknowledged Sam, or even paid attention to the fact she was there.
He put his lethal guns down and pulled out his dart guns.
He would be sure this kid didn't get hurt.
After an entire trip to his apartment, he looked at Sam.
"Right after we book this kid, we have one place to stop. No matter what you do, do NOT wear that stupid superhero outfit. You will die. Immediately."

Re: Numb [Sam]

Dire’s place wasn’t the grim, room sized armoury she remembered seeing in the lowered end of the second-class films. It was a nice, well-cleaned modern place. All-in-all nothing out of the ordinary if not for one thing that put it apart from every other place she had ever visited. This place had been touched by magic. Repeatedly even. The magical residue was all around her. Faint perhaps, but still visible. Odd finding magic in a modern place like this, she had always expected to only encounter it in really old places.

She looked at Dire. Seemingly he had lost all interest in her, occupied completely by his computer. She wondered if he knew about the magic in this place. And if so, what purpose it served. and if he did, what did it mean for his powers? If he lived in a place filled with magic, could it be his abilities where supernatural instead of mundane? Mundane, she smiled softly, what a strange way to describe phenomenal abilities that included immortality and weather manipulation as long as it could be explained by a few different genes. At any rate, it was worth investigating.

When Dire returned and told her about his agenda, she frowned. There was nothing stupid about this costume. The design had been in her family for three generations. What nerve had had for just insulting it like that! Did that guy had no respect for anything or anyone?

His warning wasn’t much better. Did he really think she’d die that easily? She had survived things no man could live through without as much as a scratch. Perhaps he was merely alluding to the fact that her costume would draw a lot of unwanted attention rather than her own vulnerability.

“Oh really, where are you planning on taking us than?” she asked.

Dire just rolled his eyes and threw his head back.
"It wasn't a part of our deal that I told you where the place was, now was it?"
Dire had officially given up on trying to Sam's friend.
He decided to begin trying when she visited him in jail.
That was such a strange concept to him.
Jail.
Dire.
It didn't go together.

"It's where I'm going to get my pencil and piece of paper."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The CCTV cams led the two straight to the kid's front door.
Dire banged on the door and looked at Sam, "I wonder if this kid likes Girl Scout Cookies..."

Re: Numb [Sam]

Sam shrugged. If Dire didn’t want to tell her, so be it. She’d find out eventually when he took her there. Though she doubted to place could be as dangerous as Dire made it seem to be. One doesn’t simply go to the most dangerous places in the world to get mundane items like a pencil and paper. He was probably just trying to share her in the hope she’d go back on their deal. If so, he might as well save himself the effort. She had every intend to see this through to the end.

She allowed to let Dire take her to their next destination and when the arrived, she immediately recognized the area. This was where the attack had taken place! If this was where this kid lived, had had been hiding under their very noses the whole time! It also meant he had placed a bomb inside his own neighbourhood. Not only endangering the lives of strangers, but of the very people he grew up with too. How could someone do this?

“Aren’t all scout groups mixed gender by now?” Sam commented before she used her X-ray vision to have a peak inside. She found the first resident inside a living room had looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in ages. It was a middle-aged man, terribly out of shape who hung in front of his television. The empty beer cans laying around him made it seem unlikely he’d get up and open the door for them. Or being able to do anything else, for that matter.

She moved her gaze to the next room. The kitchen wasn’t such a mess, but couldn’t be considered clean either. Not with a pile of dirty pots and on the sink. The garage that was incorporated in the house was more of a junk-yard than anything else. They’d be hard-pressed getting a care inside there. Or maybe they simply didn’t have a car, this was the only house in the street without a car parked in front of it. She continued with the next floor.
The first room she checked, was the bathroom; Quickly she turned her X-rays vision off and didn’t turn it back on until she was certain she was investigating a different room.

“Bingo,” she mumbled.

The kid was in, he was just laying on his bed, staring at the sealing. If what he had done yesterday had gotten to him, he was sure hiding it well.

“Over there,” she told Dire while pointing at the bedroom window.
