Sorrel King

Spades

Real Name: Sorrel King
Villain Name: Spades
Title: N/A
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Amber
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 165 lbs
Blood type: O

The Looks

Sorrel is a lanky thing, his entire body being pretty much devoid of any real muscle beyond minute amounts from lifting teacups or walking around, as a result of his relatively pampered lifestyle, and his stomach and torso area is incredibly skinny,.  His skin is pale to point of almost seemingly ghostly, and his eyes are a very light shade of amber.  His hair is a light shade of brown and comes down to around the upper part of his neck and it tucked to the side, pinned in place by a flower clip.  It has quite a bit of volume, poofing out to the side very easily, especially in humid weather.  His voice is pretty high-pitched for a guy and considered pretty annoying by most who would hear it.  His voice is also prone to cracking, making his high-pitched voice even worse.

His outfits vary drastically, but his casual outfits always have a central aspect of the color 'green,' typically in lighter variations - in summer, this is a short sleeve shirt and in winter, this means a green sweater - while his legwear is typically reserved to khakis, and his shoes are always classy designer shoes.  His professional outfits all tend to be black tuxedos with a green tie and comfortable dress shoes.

As Spades, Sorrel's appearance changes pretty drastically.  His hair no longer neatly falls to his side and instead sticks up behind him, almost like his hair was rubbed by a balloon and the static resulted in his hair standing up.  His entire body becomes encased with black and silver armor, excluding his face, where a red visor covers his eyes while offering some protection.  His forearms, chest and legs from the knees down are all much more heavily armored than the rest of his body, and his left arm has a module on it that Sorrel must use to return to normal.  While transformed, Sorrel's voice becomes much deeper and sounds something like what one would hear from a walkie-talkie - lots of noise.  His voice while transformed has the unique property of being unable to be recorded by conventional means, simply producing radio static over playback.
The Personality

Sorrel is a little shit, in essence.  He's very stuck up and is only really concerned about the well-being of himself and the company he intends to inherit.  As such, he has no real fear about double crossing anyone who gets in his way - or even if it would simply convenience him.  That being said, in the same motion, he hypocritically expects those he allies himself with to remain loyal to him, which could be considered a statement to either his absurd arrogance or his naivety.

Sorrel is very arrogant.  His upbringing in a wealthy family with the future of some large corporation has only served to feed into this, and he very much judges people based on appearances and social class - if you look poor enough or he knows beforehand that you are poor, he instantly dismisses you as no more important than a speck of dust.  He does have an odd soft spot for a select few civilians - most, those he can confirm have some connection to his company, like being an employee or a shopper.  In essence, if their continued life is in any way useful to him.  The only buildings he's truly concerned about defending are his own, which he would defend with his life before he allowed himself to spend anything on repairing them.

Sorrel is, however, very naive and impulsive.  He doesn't fully understand the implications that his actions have for the economy - taking down rival corporations does have the effect of destroying jobs and hurting the economy, which does loop back around to hurting him.  That being said, that doesn't stop him from angrily using his powers to at least damage any corporation that dares to utter anything negative about him or the company he intends to inherit, which only really turns suspicion even more towards himself.  He also becomes very angry when people give him the usual 'you haven't done anything to earn your money' shtick, especially given all that he has done to keep himself afloat.  He takes criticisms and rumors about King Industries very seriously and very personally.

Sorrel has a rebellious streak and has no problem disobeying an instated 'leader' should the need or desire arise, stemming from his discontent with those currently in charge of handling his company.  This makes him absolutely atrocious to work with on a team effort.

As Spades, he becomes much more of a showboat, freely showing off his inhuman abilities while being as dramatic as humanly possible.  This leads him to do things such as leap through windows or dramatically disappear from the sight - or, in essence, lead himself to notoriety and probably being caught.  Sorrel's arrogance still shines through with an assumption that he would be impossible to arrest even if he were caught, but that theory would probably not hold any water.
The Story

Sorrel was basically bred to inherit one of the largest companies in the US, King Industries - which was named after Sorrel's father, Rowan King.  King Industries basically came out of nowhere as a start-up business in a small town, selling nothing other than beer.  To most, it would have been a just a small shop to make do with, and for most, they would be correct, but Rowan had a vision for his shop, and he would stop at nothing to see it through.  Through pure grit, hard work and determination, he grew his little shop from an local business to a chain with restaurants all over the country, securing himself a position as one of the wealthiest men in America.  A typical rags-to-riches, self-made-man story - the kind of story that people would just love to eat up.

At least, that's what Rowan would want to consumers to believe, but a history of rumors about blackmail, under-the-table deals and Rowan's own personal history of being charged with assault followed the company wherever it went, and the rumors said about King Industries... Well, to be blunt, they were not untrue.  Not that Rowan would ever say that in court.

During their rapidly growing popularity, Rowan would eventually get married to a woman from a rival company - because they loved each other very much, and had nothing to do with any desperate grabs for wealth - and eventually put a baby inside of her.  From birth, Sorrel was raised with the intention of taking of King Industries after Rowan either retired or passed away, and, at a very young age, it became an obsession of his to eventually take over and usher in a new era of wealth for the company - or whatever his parents his expected him to do.  As such, it became all the more disheartening when, at around the age of 17, Sorrel watched as the company suddenly began to plummet when Rowan wound up replacing the higher-ups due to some scandal involving money.

These new guys seemed incompetent to Sorrel - and this was perhaps due to a sudden lack of illegal activities for fear of the company's image - and their unwillingness to bend any rules for profit completely went against what Sorrel had been instructed to do.  It seemed to Sorrel that the company was on a fast track to demise, and that Rowan couldn't stop it.  It was almost panic-attack inducing to Sorrel - what would he do?!

It was around this time that, one fateful evening, Sorrel would reside on the roof of some house that his parents had rented out for him while they took a vacation - and, really now, that is what baffled Sorrel the most.  Their company is going to hell and they're taking a vacation?! - and, almost as though a miracle, Sorrel would notice something descending from the heavens.  It seemed as though it were some kind of black streak in the sky, and it arced down from the sky, swooping right over Sorrel's head - and, almost as though sentient, into a nearby source of waves - Sorrel's phone.

It didn't take long for Sorrel to find the new app that had been conjured onto his phone, and upon use, he was surprised to find his ears assaulted by the sound of dial-up static, but once the pain faded, he took a second look at himself.  Covered in black and silver armor, wing verniers on his back and a seemingly inherent knowledge of the abilities he possessed - even if, at the time, he only knew of his ability to transform waves and not how to apply it.  The options suddenly open to him nearly floored him, but as he mused over his options, he suddenly came to realize what the most effective option to dealing with King Industry's problems were.

He'd take it into his own hands.

Within the following weeks, King Industry's rivals would begin to gradually keel over one by one, and the company would once again begin to remain afloat - and the rumors surrounding King Industries only intensified.  After the sudden bout of shutdowns, King Industries would eventually be tried in court for them, but it does become rather difficult to pin down a crime on a company with no evidence beyond some weird guy in black armor and a red visor.  While some information on a few of Rowan's past misdeeds would come up, King Industries was eventually found 'Not Guilty' due to a lack of evidence.

That doesn't mean the the company's reputation was spared - goodness, no, it was lower than ever - but it remained afloat for the time being, and that was all that Sorrel wanted.  All he would want, for a long while.

The Priority

1. Agility
2. Reaction
3. Endurance
4. Strength

The Powers
EM Wave Travel: Spades is a living EM Wave, and is thusly able to adjust his wavelength and frequency, as well as the properties of waves around him.  This means that, by manipulating his waves, he is capable of disappearing from the 'overworld' entirely - for example, matching his wavelength to a radio wave and thusly being able to manipulate the contents of a radio.  This can effectively render Spades intangible and give him degrees of control over anything that involves EM Waves.  Notably, while his wavelength does not match the 'real world,' he is incapable of physically interacting with it.

Body Manipulation: As Spades is an EM Being, he can also manipulate parts of himself.  This can be done nearly instantly if he has already changed his wavelength to to radio waves - or any waves, for that matter - but takes a few seconds otherwise.  He typically uses this to make smaller changes, such as creating weapons over his arms.

Wave Round: The only offensive ability in Spades's arsenal without changing his body.  By drawing in Radio Waves around him and changing their wavelength in a similar way as Spades changes his own, Spades can generate an aerodynamic round that can be launched with the force and speed of a sniping round.  Generating a shot takes a few seconds.

Flight: The wing-verniers on his back are not just for show.  While they aren't as mobile as some wings, Spades can force energy through them, resulting in blast of speed through the air that accelerates him to roughly half of Mach 1.  Acceleration to that speed takes about a second.

The Weaknesses

Still Human: In terms of durability, Spades is very much human with a thick layer of armor over himself.  He has no special means of avoiding damage otherwise, and if he is attacked before he transforms, he is effectively as helpless as any normal human.

Transforming Woes: Transforming into Spades, manifesting weapons over himself and even changing his wavelength takes time - up to ten seconds for changing his wavelength or conjuring up more powerful weapons.  Time that he may not have in the middle of a frantic battle or sneak attack.  Changing his wavelength emits a very loud sound akin to dial-up static, which, unless he can deafen his foes in some way, completely negates any potential for sneak attacks and basically gives a broadcast of 'Hey, I'm here!'  whenever he transforms.

Some Speed, No Control: Spades has no special maneuverability when mid-flight, and lacks any kind of brakes.  As such, for turning, he is required to reduce the amount of energy sent to one wing vernier - and it is a very precise art, requiring him to make very wide, sweeping turns or find some way to slow himself down for sharp turns.

Emotional Instability: Spades is a transformation that revolves around absolute control in order to tamper with the EM Spectrum, an as such, requires Sorrel to remain in absolute control of himself. Large amount of any emotion, let it be rage, grief, or even happiness can interfere with his ability to manipulate EM Waves, in many cases rendering him completely unable to use majority of his arsenal. In extreme scenarios, this can effectively leave Sorrel too unstable to maintain the transformation, prematurely ending the form.

The Items

The Minions

The Fluff

On his first day of grade school, Sorrel acted as though he knew no language but a few words in Japanese, much to the chagrin of his teachers and parents.

Sorrel is terrified of driving a car himself.  He worries that he'll crash.

The RP Sample

Commuting by train was so not Sorrel's style.  He had been used to receiving rides from some paid help in a limousine or similarly comfortable private vehicle, but of course the help wound up being horrifically smacked by a truck during his rush to heed Sorrel's beck and call.  On such an important day, too - the nerve of some people!  Sorrel was completely out of options, however, and he found himself piling into with the subway system of the low- and middle-class citizens to the center of town.  It was obnoxious, it was crowded, and above all else, it was noisy.

No one seemed to have noticed who Sorrel was yet, but that didn't stop them all from talking.  It seemed to come from nearly everywhere on the train.  "Have you heard about how King Industries is blackmailing everyone?  Scary, right?"  Sorrel didn't say anything, but involuntarily tightened his grip around the arm of the chair he was sitting in, listening to the conversations more intently.  "I heard that they threatened the family of some other company to make them shut down.  They're so low!  How haven't the police caught them yet?"  Sorrel knew exactly why the police hadn't found any incriminating evidence yet - and he thought back to his earlier activities as Spades, a triumphant smirk growing on his face - but that was only replaced with unrelenting rage at everyone's opinion of King Industries - and by extension, Sorrel himself.

"It's only a matter of time.  They're all a bunch of crooks.  They'll all get caught eventually."  At this, Sorrel shifted his gaze in the direction of a man not too far from, tranquil fury surpassing every other emotion as he glared in the direction of the last speaker.  As he did, the man would notice Sorrel and not make eye contact, but that didn't stop him making more noise.  "That kid just started glaring at me... Who is that?  What's his problem?"

"Hold on... isn't that Sorrel King?  Isn't he supposed to get King Industries next?"  Sorrel would quickly put his head down.  Shit.  Noticed.  This was the primary reason that he hated being around a bunch of people in public transport.  "He pisses me off.  He hasn't done anything to deserve all of the money that he has."  "He's just lucky that King Industries haven't gone under yet.  I bet he's not going to know what to do once it goes down because of how pampered he's been his whole life.  I bet he'll never even hold a real job."

Sorrel was pretty sure that his face was rapidly becoming red as his grip tightened around the armrest around him.  He opened his mouth, ready to yell at all of them to shut up, that they have no idea what all he's doing...

Ding.  "The train has reached its stop.  Please make sure that no luggage is left on the train on your way out."  The people quickly began to pile out o the train, running out of the exit towards whatever they had to do.  It made Sorrel think of mice in a maze.  That wasn't to say he had been calmed down.  As he walked outside, he slid his phone out of his pocket and took notice of the people who had made all of those snide remarks towards King Industries and, more importantly, himself.  He would turn around a corner into a somewhat secluded area and swipe his phone over to the last screen available, where a nameless black app sat in the middle of the screen, practically begging to be tapped.

Sorrel let out a grin and tapped the app, before dial-up static filled his ears as his form changed, coating him in black armor - and then, accompanied by the sound of more static, Spades disappeared.

He was going to have a bit of fun with his aggressors before he did anything else.
